Allrighty...I have everything I need to paint my headlight surrounds, there's just one problem. How d'you get the damned headlights apart? I have gone as far as removing the clips from around the seal, but it still feels like there is something holding the pieces together. Anyone have ideas/clues/directions to directions?

Nope, nothing besodes the clips. Well, except epoxy. You just have to pry and pry them apart. If you need a hand, let me know and I'd be happy to come over and help! :)

search in the how to section there is a thread, there are many ways to do it some people use a hairdryer, heat gun, oven, when i did mine I set them in the hot sun for a hour or so then used a hair dryer on the tough spots. What holds them together is buttle or beatle tape not sure on the spelling but it is some sticky nasty sh!t. I recomend when you seal them back up, you put new tape in so you dont have any leaks and you dont have to do the process again. You can get the beuttle tape at any glass shop that installs windshields.

Would it happen to be Butyl Tape? With as much that's on there, and the extra beads I have around the edges I should have a surplus

I've never bothered to add any new sealant in them. Since it's really tacky it'll just reseal itself.
Are you talking about that black border around the inside edge of the headlight lens? I'm not sure how your going to paint that. I'd imagine that you would have to scrap it off first. Which i'm not sure if you can without damaging the headlights.

YEA thats the stuff!! the first time I did mine I didnt add extra and my driver side kept getting foggy so I had to redo it but my passenger was fine so you got a 50/50 shot, but with something that much of a pita I dont like the odds!

I've had both of mine apart 3 times, and no fog here. I never re-sealed any of them either. That stuff is so gnarly, if you press it back together tightly enough it will seal itself easy.

That's gonna look sweet! Are you going to black it out entirely, like Wade's lights? That would look hot on the black car... you must post photos once it's done.

Seriously though, I would kill for good looking 01/02 headlights. Take my ****ty 99/00 headlights and paint them instead.

I'm just not down with all that bling up there. I DEFINITELY prefer the overall look of the 99-00 lights, but the 01-02 lights loook sweet when they are blacked out. Wadespencer99's car looks AWESOME with the blacked-out 01-02 lights.

lol, j/k
As for the color, I am not blacking them out completely but making them a smoked chrome. They'll still stand out a bit from the rest of the car, but I think the color will blend a bit better. Plus I get my windows tinted this Sat. I just got my clear side markers from CustomCougar last week, and I think I'll do a light coat of nightshade...just a little to keep them between smoked and clear...then add the green bulbs (though I am undecided about that).

It really depends on what the smoke chrome looks like. If it looks like crap then I'm blacking them out totally.
