No that is not my car, right now my cougar is all stock, minus the CAI. I will be moding it shortly. Tomarrow I am retooling my engine painting part of my car that was keyed, along with fixing up a firebird. Right now I am looking for mod kit for my car, just have not found one, with a nice hood

yea, um no, see my parents are very strict, in order for me to even mod my car while liveing in there house, I almost have to make an essay on what the part does, where it goes and how I intend to install it, oh and one of them are always home =(, but I have other places for all the partying

Welcome to IL NECO! I hope you enjoy your cougar as much as I do. Hopefully you will be able to go to CougarFest next year. It will give you lots of modding ideas!

Actually, If you could give me mod ideas that would be great, I have been trying to come up with some ideas for mods, for both performance and looks.

GMK CAI ... easy essay... increases MPG by about 2 mpg. oh and it increases hp a bit .... but you dont have to tell your parents that part.

Vain

I already have a K&N Custom CAI. Other then that, its the only mod made to my car so every thing else is fair game

Moraki

you mean that god awful box around your air filter? i know they call that a CAI... but its not.

vain, you'll have to come to the next meet... I've been hiding mods from my parents for years, I can show you plenty of things you can do that they wont notice.

Vain

Ill be and the next meet, and there is no box around my filter

First mods (most simple) I did.. Intake, Short shifter, tail light covers, Clear side markers, painted dash, and a pioneer headunit. My first non-simple mods I did wer Exhaust, Coilovers, and Struts.. Non simple meaning I had issues with them because I didnt know how to handle rusted-on bolts. After those, followed 18" wheels, bodykit, reapholstered headliner and side panels, in/outside neons, then most recently, racing seats. Every one of those I did myself. Body kit didn't turn out so well (as everyone knows) because It kept scraping during potholes, speed bumps, and parking curbs, which eventually cracked it, and required duct tape to hold up.

My word of advice if you plan to do stuff yourself, is to have a backup car (just incase you need to run to the parts store), a decent set of the CORRECT tools (no standard sizes for this car!), and tons of patience. I have my times where I just wanted to finish the damn mod and it ends up looking like crap, or breaking in a few months just because I was too impatient do it right the first time. Just remember. once you start modding your car, it will never be the same. If you go out and examine the top show cars out there, you'll notice that they're far from factory-perfect. It's very difficult to get that kinda quality back once you start modifying things. I remember looking at CustomCougar's car when I helped him at HIN one year. He had the 2nd place show car in the country according to the National Custom Car Association. During end of the show, Crispy and I got in his car and started picking out every single flaw. There were TONS. thing were falling apart, paint was chipping, nothing was held on very sturdy, etc. This car was far from quality, but was still a great looking car. Here's a small pic from that day. (http://creativecompacts.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/Cougar.jpg)

ANYWAYS, I'm done ranting. Good luck with modding! It's addictive, and it's fun.

I was reading your first paragraph, Brian, saying to myself "he's gotta mention the duct tape!" hahaha.

Yeah... once you start modding all hell breaks loose... but I'd like to think I've modified in a quality way. Less paint chips than my stock hood had to date, and most people ask me if it was a special edition and don't realize it was custom.

reagan, your one of the few people thats modded their car without leaving loose ends.

you start finding really odd stuff like today discovering that without the cruise control module installed, the horn wont work.

Aries

I know a loose end on Reagan's car! ::cough:: neons ::cough::

But Reagan's car really is one of the most cleanly modified, and VERY Clean!

and then you get to the point where you buy a second coug thats all ready modded, and you mod it some more. We all spend lots of money on mods, well most of us anyway. Some people just leave them stock, smash them, then buy another one
