Although I didnt get to go this year for the first time in 4 yrs, I will have to back nadthomas here... If you go back through the books, I would put a beer on the fact that even this year with many of the long term members selling their cougars, OH NECO still has/had the best attendence over the past years. I know one year we accounted for over 1/3 of the show, that was the one we won't talk about..... But basically when we roll in, we roll with several members in our back seats, and other veichles following. Heck last year alone, 1 cougar(myself) brought 10 people all from OH. Although we weren't all OH NECO, overall thats still 10 peeps from the state. As well as I believe we still had the most last year as well.
This year it mightve been another story, but it looks as though we were represented very well.

With prices projected at 4 dollars per gallon next year... The west coasters Cal, OR and WA are looking at 800-1000 dollars in gas money alone for an Ohio CF...

round trip?
assuming 18 or so fillups to add up to 800, each fill-up would have to be more than 45.....or somethign like that.
the santa fe averaged 39 with 3/4 of a tank. it would cost 52 per tank if it cost 4 per gallon
Goldie
07-28-2006, 02:12 AM
right now, I pay jsut at $40 a tank or a dollar or so under. and that's with gas around $3/gal. so $45 a tank probably isn't far off.
I figured about $725 at 27mpg and $4/gal. could probably fly for 1/2 that amount.

Okay, so guys, you're going to have to live with the fact that CF will not:
Come closer than the Mississippi to the west coast.
Really move far enough away from Indy to make that much of a difference anyway (What? 3 hour shorter drive to STL than Indy?)
Have anything less than a bunch of people hanging out in a parking lot all night long.
I've already threatened my boss with my life if I don't get the time off for CF next year, so he's already signed up on me going.
At 2170 miles one way, and approx 28 miles per gallon, you'll use about 77.5 gallons of gas, or 155 gallons round trip. At a rough weighted average of 3.55 per gallon, that's $542.50 in gas costs round trip.
Not terrible. :) That's about $60 more than what I paid last time I drove out to Indy. I'll accept that. Hell. I'll pay up to $650 just to drive out. :)

My situation is different now than it was a year ago. I'm in a stable, good paying job that won't mind accomodating me for a few days off. I'm not gonna promise anything, plus I have a LOT of work to do to my car if I want to represent properly at Fest next year. But I sure as hell will try to make it next year....
I think for selecting a location, we should have something like how they choose where the Olympics go. Have each chapter submit their own plan, location, why their location should be selected, etc., then have it voted on. Maybe do an "Elimination" vote to narrow it down to 3 locations, then vote on those 3. But if we are changing location, I think finalizing things would be better done sooner rather than later.

What Bobby described is pretty much how the Lotus club handles LOG (Lotus Owners Gathering). It seems to work for them, but they are a more organized group which has an elected board which doubles as LOG location decision makers. Each location which is in the running makes their proposal to the board, and they pick based on the strength of the proposal and the locations of past LOGs. They do have a more stable membership though.

In all seriousness though, its pretty hard to fault the job done by the Fest committee. Considering the tight budget (if any budget) they have to work with and the generally poor response by our broke-ass community (I swear, I saw the same half-dozen people selling out EVERY raffle, and that sucks as far as I'm concerned) to fund-raising attempts, I commend them for their effort and have faith a good location will be chosen.
