DISCLAIMER: I have nothing against Hondas in general, this is all in good fun.
So this friend of mine I pretty much grew up with, has been razzing me my whole driving life because all I've owned is Fords and even more since I just bought a Mustang, and he's an import guy, fair enough. He has a 2000 Honda Civic that hes pretty much modded the hell out of, some good, some bad, but I respect him because hes taken chances with it and tried not to look like every other Civic out there. Anyway, to the point...
So we hadnt hooked up in a couple months, and he was around my way, I'd just gotten back from NY, so we decided to go out for some lunch. He insisted on driving, I didnt decline (thanks gas prices!). So we leave my apartment, and in comes the domestic bashing, as he spins out of the building and onto the street, "So how's that new rusty Ford treating you?" "Oh dont start Mr. Revving-to-10krpms-but-not-going-anywhere" and so on and so forth. We get ready to hop on the highway ramp, and its a pretty long ramp, room enough to have some fun on the way up there, and he guns it pretty hard. While looking out my window, JOKINGLY as he pulls out of first I say "better take it easy before you break that thing".....
He rams it into second (and i mean ramming it), and redlines it, and then he rams it into 3rd and all I hear is the engine whining at redline followed by an "OH S--T"! I turn, "What, what?" as hes jittering in his seat not sure whether to press the clutch or the gas or the brake... I'm like "dude either shift or put it in neutral before you blow your engine"... he responds "I cant!", and im my head im fumbling between thinking WTF and panicking myself. Finally he clutches and pulls the car over to the side of the road.
Me: "Man what the hell was that all about? You forget how to drive all of a sudden?"
Him "..."
Me: "Hello? All BS aside, what just happened? Why didnt you just keep going"
Him: "it just ... snapped"
Me: "WTF are you talking about" :crazy:
Him: *lifts hand to point at shifter"
Me: *after a 10 second pause of disbelief* :gtfo: "HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA"
Him: "You think this s--t is funny?"
Me: "Dude dont EVER say anything about my Ford, ever ever ever again"
For those who didnt catch that, when he rammed the shifter into 3rd, it snapped in half. I kindly called AAA to take us to the nearby Honda dealer where he got another, and didnt speak to me almost the whole time.
