okay so were going to pick up a tranny this weekend for coug 2, but.
On carpart, theres like 5 different types of the CD4E that it lists. Whats the difference of them all? Will they all work?

Any CD4E 99' and newer will work. The last revision was done in 01'. Some sensors might not be in the same place though, but I haven't really had a chance to compare them.

any 99 and newer tranny will work the difference is in the torque converter and flexplate. all sensors are in the same postion just newer trannys have "better" sensors that shift smoother etc. going through alot in my attempt to put an older tranny in an 02 v6 right now and learning alot of important notes on atx cougs.
INCORRECT!
The '99 ATX had a mechanical VSS, as well as some of the driver's side sensors- The '00-'02 trans aren't even drilled for these sensors! I got caught with my pants down on this one while doing an ATX swap for a former member- Don't repeat the mistake!
A '99 or older (from a Contique) will work in a '99- A '00 or newer will work in a '00-'02.

so the contique or cougar 99's will work because they have the vss fitting?
Yes- Any '98 or '99 Contour, Mystique, or Cougar V6 ATX will fit- The mechanical VSS is there, plus the other two sensor positions that at this particular moment escape my recollection.
Or have Trevor or Kevin rebuild yours while I'm building your 3L! Seriously!

I remember trevor posting randomly about rebuilding ATX's. You all gotta finance your fast ass duratecs somehow ;)
