Just a dirty quick poll to see how 3L and 3L Hybrid owners are doing for longevity.
Issues are things related specifically to the motor itself, not anything else with the car.
"Minor issues" include things forgotten or overlooked during the install, which had to be fixed later on after the car was made driveable.
"Major issues" include major fluid leaks, seals busted, etc.
"It Broke" includes motors that eventually died and had to be rebuilt again.
Please click the poll selection that indicates how many miles you've had so far on your 3L or 3L/SVT Hybrid, and post a reply stating which type of issues you had, if you had any issues.
Me, 3L/SVT Hybrid, no issues, over 25k miles.

You should me it a public on so you can see all the non-3L idiots mess up the poll. Just a tip.
Good idea though.

I don't have a 3L or 3L/SVT Hybrid, and it makes me sad.
I didn't have a motor, but my engine started tapping after about 5k miles.

An engine is a specific type of motor, but any internal combustion engine is still a motor. ;)
My cougar did have a couple good motors that lasted the whole time I had the car, but they were of the electric variety.

How about adding an option for "I haven't finished building my motor, but I want to see what other people have done, so I don't screw it up" ? :goofy:

#1 issues are generally seals, pulse wheel, and routing of the positive battery cable lead from the alt correctly around the EGR pipe.

my 3L is sitting in Jrak's garage, without a single issue:biggrin:

What are you considering a hybrid? A 3L with svt intakes would be a full 3L in your poll correct?

Hybrid would be considered a 3.0L short block with 2.5L heads for this discussion. I don't really count the intake system as a "modifier" when it comes to the motor itself. But using the 2.5L heads to bump the compression, that is..
3L turbo, 15k miles.

SVT Hybrid from Dec 2000 to March/April 2003, 20K+ miles no issues. The motor was converted to turbo 3L (the FIRST ONE I might add  ) without an intercooler and I promptly popped a piston at the drag strip in May2003.
New stock pistons in May2003 with intercooler and engine dyno'd 300wHP at stock wastegate setting, ~5.83psi spring, 5.5psi or so after intercooler drop.
That motor ran fine till decided to test a 3L with 3L heads and SVT cams/intakes in January 2004.
That motor is still running with 3L turbo to this day making 355wHP when I had it and now that Ray has it is over 400wHP with him.
All on stock rods and pistons.
I think there is no difference real difference between a hybrid that has ported heads and 2.5L valves as compared to a 3L longblock mildly ported and converted to fit SVT intakes. So whichever you feel like doing works well.
There is a definite benefit to a ported hybrid over a non-ported hybrid and a hyrbrid with 3L valves is only marginally better than a well ported hybrid with stock 2.5L valves.
A full 3L is good but not better than a ported out hybrid so far, both 3L hybrids (mine) and full 3Ls, both with porting seem to dyno in the 210-220wHP range with setup to.
So really, pick your poison based on money and availability of parts/labor for the different projects.

I have 13k on my SVT Hybrid 3.0 CSVT (see sig for mods). Dan G built up the motor, so I have no doubts it will run a good long time  . All you need to keep in mind with having a Hybrid is lay off the gas when making long sharp turns and DONT romp on the gas until the engine OIL is fully warmed up (oil pressure guage takes the guess work away) and honestly you should not have a problem.
