So yesterday I was driving to work and my sub cut out, this isn't unusual since I have a Christmas Tree Cougar and the voltage regularly spikes to 19-20+ volts. However, this time it never kicked back on. I thought to myself, "Hmm, that's odd." So when I get to work I pull the shroud off and check my fuses, both are blown. I pick up two 30amp fuses from a guy at work and pop them in as im getting ready to leave and they both blow while I was putting them in. At this point I'm startin to get a bit worried so I start chcking all my wires, turns out the ground wire came out of the ring terminal somehow. I suppose I'll never know how this happened, it was in there just about as good as it could have been. Upon finding this I disconnect the power immediately and reconnect my ground, once I have that done I put in more new fuses and put the power wire back in the terminal. At this point I hear SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTT and I'm like "OH ****" as smoke bellows out of the amp and fills the entire car. Obviously the amp fried but I have no idea what happened, neither the fuse on the line nor the fuses on the amp blew when this happened ... about the only thing I can guess was that there was a dead short inside the amp. Im going to take a trip to my local Kicker dealer, but suspect I'm stuck with a $700 paperweight now  I suppose the bright side is that I can take almost 100lbs of weight out of my trunk ....
Let us have a moment of silence for the fallen Kicker SX650.1 which faithfully pumped out 750w RMS for a short 6 months.

Damn!
... I was going to say "trade ya!" - my door speakers aren't turning on for some reason... but I think its just a loose connection behind the headunit.... nothing like smoke from an amplifier! that must have been kinda scary!

Im going to do the mod to fix it before I put another amp in there. I've been meaning to do it but it's really hard laying under the car, I need to get to a lift.

750watts or 750rms ?????? Cause thats a hell of a lot of RMS pumping from that amp. Damn. thats pretty sweet if its rms and not wattage.

Never let the magic smoke out! It runs all electronics, once out, they die!

That was RMS, I have the certificate to prove it.
