I just bought a 99 Cougar for $50.00. It has a blown motor, needs a front bumper, and drivers side headlight and mirror. I don't know anything about these cars. I just couldn't see sending a car in as good a shape as it is in to the junkyard seeing as it has a body kit, fenders, exhaust and short throw shifter already in it. I may need some advice during the resurrection. Like what is the diffrence between the vct and regular zetec 2.0.

Welcome to the boards. nice catch btw. A good section to check out would be the 2.0 Section. They'd be able to answer your questions in depth a bit better. :)

can you throw away the zetec and put a duratec svt into it?... ha...
I have both stock bumpers in a good shape, it's a shame i'm in the other side of the border...

the difference between vct and non vct is really just an emissions thing. putting in a non vct motor won't really give you better gains with mods. I'd say now would be a good time to build up the zetec and turbo it since i'm guessing you have another car to drive around. the zetec has a ton of potential, and the stock block can handle 500hp.

Well I found a zetec with a little over 30,000 on it in a junkyard for $100.00. So cheap because I am pulling it myself. More or less I need to know what all I need to take from the donor focus to make life easier.

pretty much all you need is the motor. wiring harness and all the electrical stuff should pretty much be exactly the same. you will need to fab some new motor mounts though. but hell, if you have access to everything to do with the motor for 100 bucks, i'd go ahead and pull everything except the tranny and whatever you don't need, sell it, and you will prolly make enough money off it to cover what you paid for the car and the motor combined:rofl: . but yeah man, get that engine, start doin some internal work to build the strength up, turbo it, and you will have one sweet ride for really cheap. if you got any other questions feel free to PM me, and check the 2.0 section bc there are a couple guys who have turbo'd their cougar, and could help you out a lot more than me.
