I installed a newer Clarion Deck (color changing face), Alpine V12 5 channel amp, and sub from another Cougar into my Cougar last night and I had a few questions. The previous owner cut the wire harness and ran two pairs of speaker wire somewhere. One pair was definately for the front speakers because my front speakers didn't work until I resoldered all the wires back to their original spots. I think the other set may have been for the sub but I'm not sure. I noticed the deck has about 4 pairs of rca jacks hanging from it. Is one of them a sub output I can run to the amp? I hooked the amp up with the power, ground and remote. It lights up so its on. I have wire going through the car from the deck (the top RCA jacks on the deck) to the amp(line 1 input). Set it to input 1 and then ran the sub speaker wire off of channel 1. The sub doesn't do anything but the amp looks like it is working.

Everything worked in the other Cougar but the previous guy wasn't using any of the RCA jacks. He must have been running it off of the speakers somehow. I tried all the jacks and they didn't put out anything to the sub. I tried searching through options on the deck for sub output but I didn't find anything. I know the pioneer deck in one of my other cars can turn the sub output on and off.

Any ideas or suggestions to try?

did you say your cougar has the orgienal OEM ford radio harness cut off or the other cougar did? hopefully yours still has the origenal.

If your car still has the OEM plug then your good.

You will nee to buy an addtional set of 4channel RCAs. Which will allow you to make full use of your 5 channel amp.

Run the 4channel RCAs along with the subwoofer RCAs to the 5 channel amp.

my crude diagram should help. lol maybe.

the way it is wired here each of your 4 speakers will be amplifed as well as the subwoofer.

set crossover for the front and rear on the amp to HPF and for the sub channel to LPF.

should do the trick!
