I wanted to surprise everyone but im so excited that i couldnt hold it in any longer.
I made an appointment at VMP (Velocity Mustang Performance) Tuning for a full dyno tune for 2 hours and with the SCT Xcal2 upgrade. Im trading in my SCT chip for the Xcal2 since it was never working. I plan to do two "tunes" both on 93 octane just at different boost levels. I would like to see how much power the car makes at 10 lbs, and then go from there.
Once they correct everything, get rid of my CEL's, and everything is safe to go WOT (1600 miles and i still havent floored it), im off from work wednesday night as well so i intend to go the drag strip:evil:
$625 was the total for the tuning and Xcal2 as he told me on the phone. i'll keep you guys updated on everything.

im afraid dropping this $600 on tuning is going to kill me financially when it comes to fest. unless i come upon an extra grand in the next month......i probably wont be able to make it.

Why not get the XCal2 with PRP from www.brenspeed.com for $630? It comes with tunes and you could have went to the dyno to tweak it if you had problems. It would be a bit more spendy if you ended up having to go to the dyno but at least you get all the adjustability you'll ever need in case you change something. Eitherway I hope it works out for you.

06-27-2006, 12:55 PM
But being on the dyno will give him numbers and a tune where with the Brenspeed Xcal you just get a "tune"....

yeah, my $625 includes his tuning and the x-cal2 with PRP. im getting the total package.
if everything goes well me and my friends are going to the dragstrip afterwards. i cant wait!

Ya but those cams are gonna kill you at anything above 5500-6000! To get 400whp with that cam setup i think you would probably have to turn the boost upwards of 15-16, maybe even 17psi. Granted you do have a good sized turbo...15 might do it.
I guess we will see later on this afternoon...;)

You get a tune and the software to change anything you ever want to change. Where if you get a dyno tune you only have some adjustability with the XCal2 on it's own.

He is selling you the Xcal2 with the PRP and a dyno tune? That is a really good deal.

Should be interesting taking a car like yours to the Drag for the first time without being comfortable with how the car or yourself will respond to so much power.
I wouldnt push it too hard off the line, and slowly try go harder and harder until you get a feel for what the car will do. It would be best to go on a day where you'll mostly have the track to yourself instead of a busy day where you'll spend most of your time in the stageing lanes.

You should make a few passes at partial throttle, maybe 70-80 percent, before you uncork her.

now just imagine that is the driver side wheel hub.
yep, the EXACT SAME THING happened on the other side.
and keep in mind THIS WAS AFTER THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS REPLACED AND I TOOK IT UPON MYSELF TO REMOVE THE DRIVER SIDE NUT, THEN REINSTALL EVERYTHING ON THE DRIVER SIDE MAKING SURE IT WAS ALL TORQUED DOWN TO THE SPECIFIC TORQUE VALUES. wtf?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
im at the courthouse with my g/f for her speeding ticket, and i start to pull into the parking lot (5mph maybe 10) and i strat hearing a squeaking and some of that metal rubbing metal sound. i jacked the car up to find exactly what happened almost 2 months ago to the day.
I KNOW i installed the driver side correctly, as before with the passenger side, i made the error. but the driver side was torqued correctly and everything, and it still snapped.
I really dont know what to do about DriveShaftShop. I dont want to deal with them anymore as my axle set is discontinued and i hardly think theyll even want to build me any more hub (hell i dont want their hubs anymore).
i would just like a fair reimbursement or something, just enough for returning my car back to stock or something. im not waiting another 2 months like i just did. :(
I already have a stock spindle on its way from Bill with the new hub and bearing pressed in from ford. im picking up a stock driver side axle from AutoZone on friday, and installing them on friday as well.
this does put off tuning too. i got a couple bills coming up and itll be at least another week before i have the spare money again. $190 for a new spindle/hub and $160 for a tow truck and $100 for an axle. tuning money down the f*cking drain.
theres what happened :(:(:(:(:(:( the part i really hate is it happened right when i was leaving to go to the freakin dyno:banghead:

I was going to say it was that, but I knew you said you double checked the install, so I figured that couldn't be it.

f*ck thedriveshaftshop, they're just shafting you. Get some other axle.. god doesn't hate you. He just wants that sexy beast to have different axles.

Hmm, I thought I was the only one this happened to. In any case, this happened to me with Driveshaftshop's hubs as well. I broke both of mine in 02 I think it was. I managed to do both of mine at track events, one open track at Gingerman and one at an auto-x.
I called Driveshaftshop and the solution was to use their shaft with a stock hub assembly. They were able to machine the ends of their shafts to fit the our hub setup. The stock hubs have held up fine since then. I recommend you go the same route. They did take care of the re-machining and changing the ends of the shafts at their cost while I paid for the new stock hubs. I guess I didn't realize they were still selling their hubs after my debacle.

Once again- I'm using "Advance Auto Special" halfshafts... Just had to replace my hub assemblies (got both from Bill J., $310 for both assemblies :banghead: ), still going with ZERO problems... 342fwhp, 11 months and counting...

You should start taking the other side apart now and replacing them with stock parts so you dont get stuck again.

I would get ahold of DSS and see if they are willing to compensate you for the parts to put it back to stock.
They are good to work with I had problems a year and a half after I bought mine and the replaced it with no questions asked. I am very pleased with their stage 2 axles ( stock hub ).

07-03-2006, 02:17 AM
Wait, so are the axles having problems, or the hubs?
I just spent a hell of a lot of money on their Stage 2's, and I'd hate for that to have been a waste :disgust:
FastCougar
07-03-2006, 10:17 AM
From the looks of the pictures, just the hub, which they machine to match their differing spline configuration. The stage II's use the stock hubs. Strength in the axles can be beefed up so much that the splines in the hub become the limiting factor. This is what they have done. However, their solution requires custom hubs, which they have obviously not mastered yet.

Wasn't that Auto-X in Marshalltown? I remember someone having some trouble like that up at the Mustang show.
And that is really sh*tty about your troubles. I have been looking forward to seeing what you're car was capable of ever since you started putting together the turbo kit.

the axles and splines themselves are still in perfect shape. their hubs however, are total poo.

Yup, the second hub failed at a Marshalltown auto-x with the mustang club. I had to have a buddy run me back home to get the spare axle and hub and change it out.

Dude, I had to laugh even though my sympathies are with you.
Just FYI, the stock hubs and axles in my car never broke while I had it. The stock axles wore out in the joint from all the torque at around the 55-60K range though and the Autozone special "New" axles were good to go.
