i found a junk yard that has both a svt contour engine as well as a escape engine... how much would i be able to use directly from the svt to put the 3L in my car (i've read the list of svt upgrades) but im looking at putting a 3l in instead of a i4 so would the oil pan that those kinds of part work?....
i've read that parts like that would have to be changed but since i have a i4 im not to familiar with the specifics since this is rarely talked about (i4-3L)
its that or i just take wat i want then send the parts to someone who can build one....:cover:
oh and the svt engine would cost me 700cdn so it would be worth it to grab and then take wat i want....
any comments would be welcome

Both engines will yield ALL the parts you need for the setup you are looking for ... 3L oval port engine/SVT cams, timing components (including timing cover). The only thing you would need in adition is the Clevite Rod Bearings & all the gaskets.
I personally would get the engine machined to rehone the cylinders and rering the pistons and replace the main bearings while you are at it. Yes, it will add quite a bit of cost to the build, your finished product will be near factory fresh.

What else in involved with going from I4 to V6 though?
Subframe I would imagine? Transmission? Wiring harness, ECU, radiator?

the transmition is the same...mtx-75 ...
but the subframe, ecu, wiring harness would need to be changed(thank god for scrapyards)( and i would have to get the sct tuner anyways)
i think the rad is the same but i would have to change all the plumbing
then i would have to get a new intake, exhaust ( headers, ypipe)

thanks thats what i was looking for.....im assuming its a typo but rering the pistons? i was thinking of using the svt ones (just as a heads up)
also any requimendations on where to pic that stuff up when it comes time.....

I'm really uneducated in this, but are you sure the transmission is the same? My wife's Focus ZX3 has a Zetec with an MTX-75, but the transmission isn't interchangeable with the Cougar.
Not sure if would be the mounts, or where it bolts to the engine, but something about the casing is different between a Focus MTX-75 and a Cougar MTX-75. I'd doublecheck to make sure that difference is only with the Focus chassis and not with all Zetecs....

It may work...I'm just saying make sure. The difference could be because of the Focus chassis, not the Zetec engine.

Zetec to Duratec ... I missed that part of the question ... a new front subframe, ECU, different MTX-75 (not interchangable bellhousings ... case is the same), engine harness (should already be on the SVT), radiator/fan assembly, and probably A/C system as well. Honestly ... build up the Zetec ... much cheaper and less frustrating in the long run!

pull the whole front clip of the contour. everything under there is interchangeable. and then pick up the escape motor also. if u wanting to d othe swap. just remember to get the harness and the ecu. dont have them cut anything on the harness either . pull the engine and trans with the front clip.

cool thanks....im thinking of going this route becuase if the thomas knight s/c works well it combined with the 3L would be cheaper and provide more hp then a zetec can for the same money....

Just as an FYI, the pistons in the 2.5L SVT motor are a completely different diameter than the 3.0L, and are not interchangable.

I am toying with the ideao of selling my 3L that I got 2weeks of enjoyment from before my SVT was written off. I'm parting out my SVT and I dont live too far from you. Send me a PM and we can talk. I pretty much have everything you will need minus the subframe.

IIRC, there are only two part numbers for Cougar subframes, one with ATX and one with MTX. The Zetec MTX subframe should be the same as the Duratec one..
And 3L/SVT Hybrid == teh fun.
Right Joey?
