OK everyone....I actually have COOGAH's (Sami) Cougar in my carport right now as I type this....YES it really does exist.......

AND NOW IT RUNS, TOOO!!!!

I have had it for 3 days and after going over it and making sure everthing is connected properly and whatever...there is a problem:

This is a 3.0L with ATX tranny in a Returnless 00 (?) Cougar...
There are Many wires and connections in the interior that are not hooked up, but the engine bay area is complete... so here's the deal:

It starts right up, but idles very rough up and down, and then slows down to a complete stop. I changed the IACV with a new one, but that did nothing...
Disconnected the TPS sensor, and it ran better for about 20 seconds, then shut off...there was a vacuum leak, but after checking a few things, that has disappeared completely...

Here is what is on the 3.0L:

Massiv's 3.0L with Max EH UIM, optimized stock TB, 24 lb. injectors, and a Proflow MAF....

I think it might be very old gas causing the rough idle, with air in the lines,,,Or the Proflow MAF is supposedly tuned for 19# injectors, but the LIM has 24# injectors...

I need some thoughts from you guys, so Sami's car will run right for Cougarfest!!!!!!:)

Please help! THANK YOU!

Throw the factroy MAF back on there and see what happens.

It has to be the gas... the gas is about 2 years old. There may be like 1 gallon of newer gas I put in there from 3 months ago but that is it.

From what I've read, the MAF has nothing to do with the injector size anyway. You need a chip with a tune to tell the car what size injectors you have. IIRC, Gyger had uber problems with his ProFlow MAF while tuning.

Get the old gas out of there so you can remove that from being a possible cause.

The stock Ford MAF's don't have any injector tuning in them but the Pro Flow Mafs do. I'd throw the stock MAF on there and see what happens. It probably won't run pefectly though as those 24lb injectors are a little too big for it to adjust for. Get a XCal2 for it.

As far as old gas I doubt that is an issue unless the cap was left open and other things got in there. Some of the 3L SVT Contours I build up have been sitting for years and still work fine on the gas that is in there.

I agree ... throw on the stock MAF ... SVT MAF would be better. I want to see how this thing runs since it has my rebuilt CD4E transmission (http://www.fastcougar.com/cd4e_rebuild/index.htm) in it.

The stock TB is not allowing enough air in, the injectors are too big, the MAF is throwing everything out of whack.

This is what you need to do:

1.remove the MAF and replace with stockie. (SVT and stock are the same),
2.get a larger TB to allow more airflow and help compesate for the injector size difference especially without a tune
3. either get a tune or get some smaller injectors until you get a tune.

Are you throwing a cel for it running to rich??

Thanks guys...this helps a little bit...we'll try and see what happens.

I might be able to find out if it has codes tomorrow, because the fuse for the diagnostic port was pulled, so I need to put one in then run my scan tool...

Let you guys know if I find anything!!

when i get back, i am gonna replace plugs and wires and put the bigger tb on there. also gonna install smaller injectors (i have 24 pounders in there now- gonna go with 19) also will install SAFC2. if this does not solve the problem i will then swp out the MAF with the stockie. if all else fails i will take the car out back and shoot it.
