My project over the past couple weeks has been painting and installing the interior parts I got from GMK, which turned out to be a little bit more of an adventure than I was expecting. When I got the parts, I thought all I had to do was rescuff the parts, primer, then paint it whatever color I wanted. When I started to sand however, me and Royce (whitecougar, who was helping me) discovered that the parts had peviously been sprayed with clearcoat of some kind, which meant we almost had to sand the paint all the way down to the original color just to repaint it.

I picked up several cans of "Royal Blue" spraypaint from Wally World that looked to be really close to the Sonic blue I'm eventually making the inside/outside of the car. We painted the radio bezel, headlight bezel, vent caps, and inside dash shroud.

While we were in there, we hardwired my radar detector into a switch which resides where the little "speaker" is on the dash that US Cougar's don't utilize. So now with the flick of my finger (never taking my hands off the wheel) I can turn on my radar detector. We also put white LED's in the switches in the doors, and hooked up several LED's to replace the regular dome light. We also replaced the alarm light and defrost light as well. And we also changed the dash LCD's over to a white backlight instead of the ugly green. We still need to do the headlight switch, dimmer switch, and trip computer switch (which I need a new one since the paint is almost worn off of mine). I do have the most important stuff converted though, and I love the white LED's (which I don't know if anyone else has done white LED's inside).

On to the pix:

Snapped a couple other quick pix, since I cleaned it up the other night.

Eventually I'm going to make the interior A, B, and C pillars ABOVE the window line that same blue, and I'm gonna make the center console and all the other plastic parts BELOW the window line black, so it will be the reverse of my exterior scheme, which is black top/blue bottom. I'm also gonna try to find headliner fabric that matches close to the blue, so the roof and everything is blue.

I hate the vibrator look of the steering wheel :disgust:

The rest looks nice.

Yeah it wasn't bad when i first got the car (the cover was on there when I bought the car) but its getting worn out now. I just like it because during "spirited driving" your hands get a VERY good grip on the wheel, because its that gel stuff. I'm looking around to find a new cover that serves the same purpose but doesn't look like a f***ing ding dong. :disgust:

Great spot for the radar.. Mine is up there as well. Very undetectable by an officer looking in through the window. Even if it is legal in your state (like Mine, Illinois) I know many police officers who will throwout the option of a warning if he sees one in a car he pulled over.

I wouldn't do that to the headliner... that's a little overkill :puke: So when are you going to finish the exterior?

As soon as I win the lottery, lol. Gotta get the alternator fixed first, then I'm just gonna buy a CF hood as this one just weighs too damn much. Then its off to get the body kit so I can get the whole thing painted in one shot.

Yeah I had it on the lift the other night at school, and during break there were like 5 different kids looking at it checking it out. Apparently they don't see very many Cougars up close, one kid said "Yeah its the V6, but its an automatic, right?" I said "Hell no, 5-speed." He looked inside and said "Whoa, I never knew they made these in 5-speeds! This is freaking cool looking car!" I just kinda laughed a little, these Honda kids have no idea whats going on when they look at the Cougar, they get so confused. "But its a Mercury, its not supposed to look cool!".

it looks good but wheel covers always look like ass... seriously, if you want a leather steering wheel, I have an extra if you want it.

i say next time your at "Wally World" pick up some primer and go at the car, that way it doesn't look as you would call it "rice"

What am I gonna primer on the outside thats gonna make it look better? I've already decided I'm not gonna waste my time with this hood and I'm just gonna get a Carbon Fiber one instead. The fenders are all pretty much ready to be painted, but since I'm waiting till I have a kit before I paint the whole car I'm leaving them as they are until then. I was gonna just paint it now, then get the kit painted to match later, but with the scheme I'm using I really need to be COMPLETE on the outside before I send it in to the paint shop.

You could at least rattle can the hood the same color as the fenders.

Bobby.....why not just do something with the hood? You can say you're going to buy a cf one, but how long until you could have the money? Especially with your alternator possibly going out?

Follow through with something man!!

It won't cost much to buy some fiberglass, bondo and sandpaper and start working on that thing. Elbow grease is free.

I can't find the exact address, but its 47th Ave and Glendale in Glendale. Are you still up here in Phoenix? Or back down in Sierra Vista? I gotta stop by school tomorrow, if you're in the area I can show you where it is.

first pics I've liked of your car haha, looks like you did a good job painting that stuff! Looks way better than the 10 lbs of dust pics I've seen in the past of your interior haha! Finally making some ground on your car though, feels good don't it!

sooooo....you're getting rid of the hood then?

Who knows, I probably will. I've just been looking lately at making this car handle really good and I'm looking at weight reduction big time. Why have a hood that "looks" like a Kaminari hood, but still weighs 45 lbs and is just a "ricey" part?

That and I'm just not sure I really want that big obnoxious thing on there. I think a CF hood will look just as good once I paint the "outer" part of the V to go with the rest of the car. I'm still debating whether or not I want to paint over all of the CF or leave the middle part as is.

With those interior parts... you may want to wetsand them with 1500, clear them a couple times, then wetsand again and buff. Will make it shine like no other.
