I was wanting to upgrade my cams to SVT's. I have the 2001 VCT 2.0L. I was wondering how much they would cost, how much power gain, what I would have to do and get to install them, and where I could find them. If someone could help me out here it would be greatly appreciated.

svt cams are from the duratec engine

Well I guess that would make it where they wouldn't work. Do you know what cams would be the best app. if I plan going turbo in like 4 yrs?

look at zxtuners.com. cams for a zx2 will go in a cougar also one of the cams from a focus will, i cant remember if its intake or exhaust and i dont feel like looking it up now. there are a few posts in this section about cams, even one where ness went through how to install a focus cam and how it preformed afterwards.

You mean SVT fous cams? Because they have the 2L zetec engine. I couldn't tell you if they work or not as I'm not at all familiar w/ that motor.

i would say that the svt focus cams wouldn't work since the cougar's got the vct and the non-vct focus cams don't work. to the best of my knowledge the svt is a non-vct as well. so i'd go w/ james and hit up zxtuners.com

no not the svt focus, the regular 2.0 zetec focus. you can use which ever cam is on the opposite side of the vct, i think its the exhaust cam.

if u're using a focus cam, the intake cam is the only one that will work cuz the vct is on the exhaust cam.

The reason I'm trying to find the best cams is because my goal for this year is to get 200 whp this year. I just want the cheapest way to go about it since this year is already half over. I want the power all the time so I ruled out nitrous. Thats what one of my boys is saying I should get, but I want the power all the time and not by pushing a button. I plan on turboing the car in about 2-4 years so I'm also working around that.

only way to get 200whp out of zetec is FI

Cam's aren't really needed for 200whp. Most kinds of turbo's will do that easy on a totally stock block. To hit more than 250+, then cams would be a good idea. I believe zxtuner.com sells the only cams we can use like he said.

Like I said I'm setting my car up for turbo. Just in the mean time I would like to get about 200whp.
I don't want nitrous. My car is being set up for show. I just want to get about 300hp out of it and I'm done with motor work.

so you say before you go F/I, you want 200whp?.......won't happen.

You can also try gude.com

Gude has a crap reputation in the Zetec world and I wouldn't buy anything from them.
To get anywhere near 200whp on a NA Zetec will take serious cash and work. We're talking new cams, exhaust, intake manifold, and head with bigger valves. If you've got the cash check this guy out:
http://focus-power.com
I'm not sure if they're still in business cause I heard the main guy retired, but he's one of the best zetec builders in the country. If he's not there then try Zxtuner.com, I think they have a head package also.

this is true, ive read alot of reveiws on teamzx2.com about their head packages and turbo kits being crap.

they no longer carry the zx2 head packages, they were made by esslinger i think and they either went out of business or just quit making zetec heads. most of the zx2 owners get a guy from teamzx2.com named johnP to do their head. he has a flow bench and everything and i beleive one of his heads was tested against either gude or esslinger and his flowed better, also he has a very nice price.

OK well I already have exhaust work done. Say I got a port and polished intake manifold, 70mm T/B, and a header. How much hp do you think I could possibly get.

Looks like you should check out the "Zetec Dyno Mods Comparison" Sticky. (http://newcougar.org/forums/showthread.php?t=92624)
Even with the FRPP Head, Cams, and the rest of the Ford Racing parts you will only get 175HP at the crank.
If you get cams, you might want to get ones that are suitable for a turbo application or you'll end up buying different cams for your turbo setup. I believe the "torque cams" are better suited for turbos. There isn't cam overlap, which would cause some exhaust air to go back into the cylinder on the intake stroke instead of spinning the turbocharger turbine.

So when buying motor parts should I get ZX2 or ZX3 parts or does it realy matter?

the zx2 cams and head would be alittle easier since both cars have vct, the focus head would need some good tuning to fun properly because it doesnt have vct.

Would there be any hp gain out of the zx2 cams and head or would it just be the same?

with a stock head you wouldnt get anything, i was talking about a ported zx2 head and aftermarket zx2 cams.

I should have mentioned that the ZX3 FR parts are for the FRPP Head. So, the dyno mod list can just be use as a rough comparison.
So, if you're not going to get the ZX3 head you will have to use a ZX2 Exhaust Cam. BTW: There are modifications that have to be done just to use the ZX3 Head. (Cam Sensor, Programming, ...)
As for the Aluminum Intake Manifold, you can't even get it right now because that FR parts is being changed. I believe you had to modify the head to get old one to work.

Well I do appreciate all the help on this. I now know what I can do to tune my Cougar up a little. Thanks for all the help.

guys guys first the svt focus does have a vct on the intake cam however they will not work for the cougar zetec. second the duratec wont work either v6 which someone also stated. and finally the zetec cougar has more potential than any other cougar unless you go rwd v8 and still then its questionable if you want to make big power outta the 2.0 look at doing a head swap. look for an svt focus head or get a ford racing head. Ford Racing makes a good product but the svt head is a little bigger and can make more power with a little port work. however either way your gonna be looking at some tunning.. i used to have a v6 cougar and want to eventually own another cougar however it will be a 2.0 i have since learned that the 2.0 motor is easier/ more cost effective to make big power than the v6 ever thought about doing. i now have an svt focus and when i get it dynoed expect to be making 450hp. i have done some extensive work on my motor so if you have any questions on how to make some big power feel free to ask
