Laser Red has a new toy, and so do I

First up, my new toy... Auterra Dyno-Scan for PalmOS, OBD-II code reader, data collector, and even has some GTech-like dyno functions. Just arrived yesterday, and I've already scanned the DTC in Krissy's Taurus (P0430). Not just the DTC, but the freeze frame data too (event occurred at 58 mph, and 2143 RPMs).

I already had the Palm m125, which I got for free from a Palm open-box bargain deal when I bought the Palm m515 that is my everyday PDA. Includes the OBD-II box, the OBD-II cable, and software. Picked up a serial hot sync cable from some random Web store. I hope to come up with a reasonable way to mount it in the Coug so I can record while I drive :)

Next up is Laser Red's new toy! Recognize it?

ATI boxed subframe, "Aussie" bar, urethane bushings, "Aussie" (heim joints) endlinks

Only thing left for the suspension is Konis. I'm so far in the hole monetarily that there's no reason to stop now... Unfortunately none of this will be installed for 'Fest. Grand unveiling will be at Rockin' Rockbridge 06 on Sept. 9. More details about Rockin' Rockbridge later. So Laser Red will be rockin' the same setup she was at CF05, except for the data logger.

Konis & Eibachs on the Coug, move the Coug's springs over to the 'Tour along with the ST200 struts I've got, and maybe a Roush sway bar on the 'Tour eventually and she's done too. It's the 'Tour's electrical problem at the moment along with my unusually busy schedule that's killing my Cougar modding. :( And the lack of funds. Not good to be spending out of savings...

I'd be glad to help out whenever you want to start installing all your stuff. Since you've taken care of your car so well it should be relatively easy to do it all. Hell, at around 60k miles my cars suspension came apart surprisingly easy.

Woo! Nice, Mark! I wanna hook up the datalogger to my Cougar!

I ordered some Roush goodies from Hillbank today. I'm going to mod the exhaust and install the rear valence and Roush sway bar a week from Friday. So I'm gonna try and hit Rockbridge with you guys this fall too, since my car's finally looking respectable.

Sweet. So Mark's gonna be the new data logging tuning expert? Ha ha.

My car's running so rich right now... a chip would do so well, some data logging wouldn't hurt.

Sweet! Thanks man!

Unfortunately, no. :( The maps and code in the ECU are read-only, you'd need an add-on to allow changes. You can read a lot of the operating data, like coolant temp, engine RPM, long and short term fuel trim, and spark advance. You can also ( I believe, I haven't played with it much yet, just plugged it into Laser Red to make sure it worked, and then read the codes on the Taurus ) log the O2 sensor switching. :) The company website claims that it only takes 0.5 MB of RAM in the Palm to log a particular sensor for an hour. And once you sync to the computer, you can export the data to a CSV file to work with it in Excel or OO or something like that.

Check the BAT catalog for the boxed subframe, and that's in the ball park. I got the package deal from Fastcougar, so it wasn't quite that much, but I don't have the separate prices for the rare and hard to find Aussie bar to know exactly. ( And hence Aaron, why I couldn't jump on your ST200 RSTB sale, being in the middle of this transaction at the time... )

So Mark's gonna be the new data logging tuning expert? Ha ha.
Let me learn how first ;) And after CF I'd be happy to help y'all out with some data logging. I'm curious to find out if I can log the O2 sensor switching, and determine if the cat efficiency codes are bad cats or slow sensors, that'd be easier than swapping sensors to see if the code followed.

Thanks for the compliments too :) Andy, who/what is Hillbank?

Hillbank Motorsports is mainly a Mustang parts house, but they sell the full complement of Roush/Saleen/Steeda parts and accessories. That means they have Focus and F-150 parts as well, and of course, we can use lots of Focus parts on the Cougar. In fact, they have a set of Saleen Focus rims that I am REALLY tempted by...

Maybe PM Fastcougar, or search on CEG.

Otherwise I could measure the ones I have, then you can just search for a supplier of "heim joints" in the proper size.

When I googled for what the heck a heim joint was, I saw links to a couple of places to buy them.

And Fastcougar is a great seller :)
