Awesome man. I gotta ask, are you going to have everything done in time for Fest?

No fest for me. I had appendicitis in the beginning of June and I'm currently not working so i had to cancel my trip and hotel reservations.

SPEC Stage 3 = Overkill even if you want to spray, and is more of an "on/off switch" than a clutch.

Just wait 'till it breaks in. :banghead:

Yes i know. I have F/I plans MAYBE in the future with a turbo or S/C and i wanted to say away from the SPEC Stage 2 with Kevlar.

I drive UPS trucks ever day and those clutches blow so I'm not really worried.

I love mine. I guess it's just a matter of personal preference. I have no problems driving mine in traffic or anything like that. Now don't get me wrong it is...let's say "touchy". Meaning there is only about 1/4" difference in engaged and disengaged as far as pedal travel goes, but once you drive it a couple times it is cake.

And for my application...i wouldn't think a stage I could hold drag radials and a 100/125 shot. I am not positive cause i have never had/driven a stage I before. All i know is my stage III DOES NOT slip, and when it wears out i will get another one.

As of SPECS web site the stage 1 can hold 270 lb-fts. The Stage 3 can hold 440 lb-fts. I don't care what the clutch really feels like because i bought a MTX for a reason and i love it. I love it when its the easiest (highway) and when I'm in very slow moving traffic. It will just take a little time getting used to the Stage 3. :)

dan, do you know what kinda torque a SVT clutch can hold? The clutch is the last real issue I need to face.

and joe, maybe i should wait. That way, they know what they are doing at the dyno and I can step on right after you, get it done quicker, and pay less

HAHAHAH NO! Just kidding. The place is great, they work with Ford Focus, ZX2 and Mustangs all day. A bunch of great guys that know what they are doing.

I was wondering the same thing about the SVT clutch and flywheel being a better bargain than SPEC or Clutchmasters and Fidanza Flywheel. What are people's thoughts? Yes, this would be for a 3L, yes, it will be road raced, but no F/I though. Whatcha think?

mond12345

The SVT flywheel is lighter than our one but by only a few pounds. I THINK ours weighs in at 22 or 23 pounds as the Fidanza is 9 pounds which makes revs come up a lot fast and drop just as fast. The SVT clutch i would think is only really rated around the SVT power which is 200, the stock 3L block is that much. Just get a SPEC stage 1, holds way more than the SVT clutch and it feels like OEM as of SPEC.

Ohh and thanks for the hijack! :gtfo:

I like my stage 3 alot. Granted it isn't fun in traffic but I don't do much city driving anyway. This thing rocks for quick shiftin' and power shiftn', you barely have to push the thing in! I've yet to try and launch the car with it though, outa be fun.

i have the spec stage 4 and you wanna talk about an on/off switch!!!!!!

if i time it right i just shift the gear and tap the clutch and everything works perfect! not as bad daily driving as you might think

The SVT clutch when bedded in correctly can hold quite a bit.

I ran mine with my 3L for two years no issues, then I put a turbo on my 3L and ran it at about 6psi boost. The SVT clutch held the 3L turbo for while I had it in there!
I ended up popping the pistons before I hurt the clutch. Then when I took the motor out to fix it I threw in a Torsen T2 and a spec stage 3. That is when I started the sticky on CEG about shift forks and moding your MTX75 back in 2003.

So don't believe the hype. A new SVT clutch is just fine for a normal NA 3L, but I know it wouldn't have taken too long for it to go under the 3L turbo, it just didn't have a chance. If you are wondering what the torque was on the 3L with the turbo at that time, it was in the 260 ft-lb range at the wheels. This was before I intercooled it and the reason the pistons popped.
So I'd lay money the SVT clutch can hold 220-250 ft-lbs a high performance NA 3L could possibly throw down.

All the 3L's I build stick with the stock SVT Clutch. I haven't noticed any clutch problems with any of the cars.

thats just the answer I needed, and thats what I thought. SVT clutch it is.
