All anyone ever really posts pics of is subs here. Lets see some pics of your front stage. What does your consist of...components, processor, amp etc.? Is any one here runnning active? As for mine, I have no pics due to the cougar is being sold but it was last setup as 3-way active with elementals 6500's components and their eu-700's for midbass duty. Once you go active you don't go back, its a world of difference.

what do you mean by active?

active is when you have an amp for EACH component in the setup. meaning, he has an amp for the midbass drivers, and amp for the midrange, and an amp for the tweeters. each signal has to be crossed over via another device or the HU/amp combo.

the opposite of active is passive. when you just hook up a set of components and use the crossover that comes with them, that's passive. the woofer and the tweeter are ran off of the same amp.

smb - what HU do you have? i had a clarion DRZ9255 that was made for a 4-way active setup. :) too bad i had to sell it. :(

My eclipse Headunit has the ability to Active for the front sound stage. I havnt tried it out yet though. Do you really feel its the best way to do it? My crossovers are pretty damn beefy. Plus they have the illuminated protection circuit which protects the tweeters from too much power. So what do you think about bypassing the crossovers and soley relying on the deck for the crossover signal?

Since I have a pretty badass digitial 4 channel amp i can greatly fine tune my mids and highs, I have a smaller alpine for my midbass.

Unfortunatly I probably wont do it with this car since I wont be having it much longer. (maybe) not sure yet. Additionally i would loose my abilty of time correction between the door and kick panel speakers.

but here is a photo of my front sound stage

Its an outdated pic but it shows the general idea.

Yes I asked my self the same question if it would make that big of a difference, but I said what hte hell and tried it and its amazing. You'd be surprised no matter how good you think your passive x-overs are at how much better it can sound with a little tweaking. And gmk you have the cd7000 don't you? That would have the pro-mode which would work great for going active. And wolvatron I'm using the new pioneer 780mp, I had an 860 but it crapped out on me. I was afraid the 780 wasn't going to be as nice as the 860, but IMO its better, it has more features. But yeah I'de still trade it for a 9255 any day.

If you say it makes a big difference can my system be active.

This what I currently have:

Eclipse HU
6.5" 2 way components
4channel Memphis amp

I'm kinda confused on how woud I go about connecting the speakers to the amp and the settings to use.

It mainly depends on your HU, your going to need pro-mode or an external processor or an amp with some sort of processing. You could use your 4 channel and run your tweets off 2 channels and mids off the other 2. You would lpf your mids say around 63 or where ever and then hpf em around 3k something, it all depends on speakers, setting up the sound stage etc. You can change the slopes and all that to blend. For instance say your sound stage is low with the passive x-overs, you could go active and x-over the tweeters lower to raise your sound stage. If you have a new eclipse I believe only the cd7000, the one gmk has, is the one that has pro-mode, but the cd-5000 might have it too i'm not sure. But if you have an older model such as the 8053, 8455 i nkow for sure and I think maybe models like the 8454 and 8445 might have it as well. Look on hte back of your HU and there would be a switch for pro-mode, atleast thats how it is on my friend's 8455.

My Eclipse HU has the frequency option
HP - 8k or 10khz
LP - 63 or 100hz

Anyways I connected the speakers directly to the amp with no passive crossover. I noticed a big difference the speakers felt alive but now I don't know what hz to crossover the tweets and mids.

On the amp dial it goes from 40hz to 6khz.
There is no other numbers on there so I can't set it to exactly 100hz or 3khz.
