View Full Version : Headunit Installation Problems

Alrite...Got this stereo I'm installing. Went to BestBuy and got the Install Kit and that's good. Took me forever to find the wiring harness and ended up finding it at a PepBoys. Hooked everything up and it all looked good. I turn the car on and instead of it being music it's just this horrible 'clicking, popping, and hissing' whenever I change from CD to Radio or whenever I do anything that would effect or change the audio level or EQ. I'm hesitant in taking it somewhere to ge it installed cause I don't feel like paying $40 an hour for an install. I was wondering if anyone knew what would be causing the popping and clicking. I got maybe 3 seconds of good quality audio and then it just dropped out to clicking. Any suggestions???

That sounds like a problem with the new head unit. There's nothing electrically in our cars that would cause problems (like a stock amp or something), and I think if it were hooked up incorrectly, it wouldn't work at all. Did the stock radio work without these problems?

Usually when you buy one at a store they do free installs.

Yeah, friend gave me it used outta his car. Worked good a month or two ago. Not like it matters now cause last night the car died and now won't start. Dome lights, stock radio, locks, and all the gauges work, but the car won't start and the headlights won't turn on. It's sittin in a Wal-Mart parking lot right now. I gotta call CarMax and get info on the warranty cause there are just too many problems with this car.

I'm not sure if it's related or not, 50/50 chances. I've been having alot of problems with the gauges and instruments for the past month or so, so it could be someting else or could be just something went wrong when I attempted to install the new stereo. It was running great for the past 2 days though. Drove almost 200miles back to Dallas last night and everything was great. Started the car when I was leaving the parking lot, I drove for about 5 feet and the engine just shut off and now won't even turn over. :confused: :confused: :confused:
