SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO im finally back on the road after dealing with the broken wheel hub issue for over a month. ill tell you guys that story some other time.

swapped in lightning 42 lb injectors, installed my gunmetal wheels and cleaned her up in the meantime.

took her out for the first time yesterday. car ran great for about 10 miles, then when i hit the heavier traffic, the coolant temp kept rising and rising then it would spuuter and start trying to stall itself. i got to my g/f's house and i really think i never heard the fans come on, like ever. my down-pipe is really close to the wires for them, so i think the pipe has something to do with it.

now, what i wanna do is make the fans come on when i want them to (which is all the time).

i want to put a switch in the cabin and run the fans on/off right off of this switch.

my question is............anybody done this? my good friend did this on his probe with aftermarket fans. he never worried about over heating on his ZE swap. the only thing he worried about was leaving them on by accident and running down his battery.

im going out right now to by some wiring (im thinking pretty thick, at least 10-12 guage) and a switch.

I know some of the guys in the mustang club have done this, and if I'm not mistaken one of them went as far as to make a relay or run the power through the ignition so that if the key was not in the ignition and he left the fan running, it would act as an automatic cut off.

That's what I was going to say, just use a relay, and wire it up to one of the ignition wires, just like you would with a amp.

you don't have to jump it off the igntion just find a fuse in the fuse box in the engine compartment. There should be some under there that are off with the ignition off. Run the fans to that. You could run the switch to the interior from there.

I wouldn't mess with running the fan switch though. Have you adjusted the on off temp settings of the fan in the ECU? If it is running hot you should find the problem instead of trying to over work your fans.

Puck was saying that wiring the fans to be on when they are not supposed to will cause the ECU to hate you.

If you have an Xcal or any type of chip it can be programmed to have the fans settings changed. I have mine set to come on at 195low-200high

I got a better Idea.

Just fix the original wiring and tape it up. Then buy some aluminum backed foam tape from Homedepot or similar place and wrap up the harness where it is near the pipe. THen you'll be golden and the system will work like it is supposed to.
You don't want them on all the time you will wear out the motors prematurely and suck a lot of power from the alternator, wearing it out faster as well as sucking power from the engine.

Only hardwire it to the ignition system if you have not other choice.

well, the wires frm the driver fan are melted completely. D'oh. thats why they wouldnt come on. my downpipe is physically to far forward for those wirs to be there.

for right now i have them relayed from the ignition, and now the car is normal again. :)

i actually made a trouble free trip to work and back with no problems :):):)

i am making a dyno appointment for next friday:evil:

Just extend the wires and run them along the outside of the fan shroud, away from the downpipe. Problem solved! :)
