DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR INJECTOR HARNESS!!!!!!!!!!

keep the one from your old motor if the fuel systems are different. i am learning the hard way through both time lost and money lost.

AHHHHHHHHHHH why do there have to be 2 types of fuel systems?

although i figured i just need one long wire and 2 short ones, some solder, and some calm nerves and i can fix this situation. i have returnless and there is just one plug difference from the return and the returnless. DAMMIT!!!!!!! Damn you ford, Damn you to hell

Is your car returnless or return. The reason I ask is that if it has the returnless style clips you can use the injectors from the 3.0 which are 19#. If you have a return style car the injector clips are different and you can either:

A. solder the 3.0 clips on and use 3.0 returnless style 19# injectors
B. return style 19# SVT injectors
C. 3.0 return style 24# injectors
D. buy different size 19-24 # injectors that fit your clips
E. use your orginal 17 # injectors and not rev to high or boom

You can use any top feed injectors that have the same clip proper rating and pentile size. This includes GM, Ford, Honda, or any other make that is the same style injector. The manufacturer doesn't matter. Its the clip, the lenth, size, and rating that makes it usable.

I would suggest not to solder since you can easily get the right injectors for around 50 bucks. I picked up my TRUE 24# return injectors for around 30. Hope that helps.

i am not concerned with the injectors. i am more concerned with the extra plug that copnnects to the fuel line. besides the type of injector, the main difference is that it (returnless) has an extra plug. where the fuel line connects to the fuel rail, there is a plug with 3 pins and a vaccuum niple on the bottom.

You can buy jumpers that convert from the return to returnless plugs or vice versa. Search online. I posted a link to some on CEG a while ago.

Yeah but weren't they like 30 a pop or more?

see i threw out the original harness by mistake. i am just urging people not to repeat that mistake. the problem with the actual injector connectrs is a relatively speaking, easy one. BUT, the harnesses designed for returnless systems have an extra plug. the TPS connector and the connector in question both split off from the injector harness on the lower right end of it.

either way, i have purchased this harness from a member on here. if it takes too long, however, i have figured out what the main difference between the two types are (in terms of the way they are wired that it) and i will run the wire myself.

thanks peeps

wow 30 each? thats almost the price of a set of used injectors.

It was like $6 a plug so it ended up being about $40 or $50 for the set. Not horrible but I'd think it would be worth it so you don't have to worry about issues with soldering on 6 new plugs.

Where can you get them?

ok... so if i have a returnless (01) and want to install a 3L, i would want to make sure the 3L engine is a returnless style too???

all '01 and up 3L's were returnless the last time i checked. so that sounds about right.

Not exactly...... when installing a 3l you want to make a plan and decide what you want and find the parts needed to make a swap.

There isn't and one set of answers for everyone it depends on what you want and how much mony you have to spend.

Any swap you do you want to save all your orignal parts until it is up and running in case you run into some sort of problems and need to replace a particular part.

the whole point of my post is to stress the last thing that was said here. keep ALL original partws until its running and you are satisfied its working properly.

Andy-

We talked on the phone, but I thought I post s pic too- This was from my 3L hybrid.

The stockies (return-style 17#/hr) injector is on the left (I'm holding it). The 19# returnless is on the right, installed on the motor.

Now- People say you can switch between the two with that adapter BlackCoog was talking about. I personally had problems (CEL codes, lean and rich, couldn't nail it down), but I soldered in returnless connectors to a return style harness using high-silver solder and heat-shrinked the connection:

Once i put return-style 19#/hr injectors in (orange/brownish), no more CELs, fuel economy improved.

On quite a few of the 3L swaps I've worked on the returnless plugs on the harnesses are often broken. The clips are very brittle and snap when removed. If you don't us a zip tie to hold the plugs down they can slide up and loose contact with the injectors. Double check your plugs when installing and if you don't hear it snap down use a zip tie to secure it. The return plugs are much more durable with the metal clips to hold them in place.

so these should be good to go then for the returnless system

there is a number that says 21 in a square ..... possible to be 21# injectors???????????????????????? I don't think these are 19#

Where did they come from? The stock 17's are that color.

AndyMan

they came on the 3L... 2002 sable motor.... there's a part number on there that reads "YL8E-C7B" ... please tell me these are not 17#ers

I had the cream injectors from the 3L's flow tested and they came out as 19lb injectors. The gray injectors that come in some of the 3L's were 22lbs.

thanks blackcoug  ... just needed to make sure they were atleast 19s

Andy-

That's good news then! Just remember I'll have your motor hooked up to the Autotap when we fire her up- I want to make sure the fuel trims aren't completely whacked out. -20% trim or less with the stock ECU (which expects 17#/hr injectors). Once the tune is done, it shouldn't be any more than 5-7% long-term trim (plus or minus).
