*ahem* Radar detections are illegal in Canada... ;)
that being said!... i'm 90% sure that one would work great... BUT... think of how your car will look when its installed.
I bought one of these a while ago, but never used it because:
You will have the detector smack dab in the middle of your windsheild (since it can't go through tint, windsheild wipers, and has to have a certain 'view' of the horizon). So everyone will be able to see it infront and behind you.
Next, you will need to power it right? so you'll have this big nasty car adapter thing hanging around.
IMO, its just not worth the hastle... PLUS if you get caught with it, i'm sure 'they' won't be too happy.
Just keep your eyes open for cops... don't speed... its not worth it if something happens, especially at your age - you probably have enough worries about insurance. Take care of that cougar! its been in the 'family' for many years!

and they only work some of the time. Ive gotten 2-3 tickets with my detector on. It only works if they have the gun on all the time. If they point and then shoot, youre screwed. Then you have to scramble to take it down w/o being seen before he gets to the car. I havent used mine in a long time

Thats a solid point...O.P.P. and municipal police use the laser guns here. So they point and click to get your speed. Not on for very long...The old-school ones are usually just found as front and rear pillar mounts in the criusers for when they are driving.
It's also a big-a$$ fine if you get pinched with one. I agree with Matt, just take it easy and save the speed for long open roads where you can see forever down it. Otherwise, just get yourself in amongst a pack of speeders...They only pinch the leader or trailer in a group.
Oh yea...at your age man...If you get caught speeding and get hit with points...your finished...your insurance will bend you over and feed it to you so hard!!!
When I was 18 and got my Cavalier 2-Door (not a Z24), with a clean record, I was getting hit for $4200 my first year. So not worth it man.

And much more important that all of those points above, OPP have radar detecter detecters! I *think* they're called Spectre (or Specter) units. Valentine 1 claims to be undetectable (I think that feature is called VG-2), but actually, there is now a radar detecter that is TRULY undetectable. It's in a special metal case, and uses special electronics, so it is 100% undetectable. It's made by Beltronics, I think, and is called the STi or something. (Named after the impreza)
At any rate, I wouldn't run ANYTHING other than the brand-new beltronics unit, or the Valentine 1 in Ontario. It will get confiscated FOR SURE, and you will get a huge fine.

In the late 80's early 90's if you got stopped with one of those, they'd smash them in the road right there in front of you.

They still do smash them right on the side of the road. They had a video on our local news a few weeks ago of an OPP pulling someone over who had a radar dector in their car. The OPP was cruising down the 401 with the radar detector detector on, and then pulled the guy over (he was from Michigan). They showed the officer breaking it, and handing back the pieces. Then handing the ticket to the guy. If you are an Ontario resident and get busted with one, your are getting a HUGE fine.

Yea...I've always said that I'd rather pay a $300 fine for a ticket, then get hit with points and the ensuing insurance premiums to follow. At age 18, I would put $50 on the table and say that if you got nailed for three points, your insurance would go up by a minimum of $1000/year. And the points stay on your abstract with the MTO for three years. So thats $3000 extra for one ticket.
So if you buy a radar dectector, they will most likely know you have it on, so they'll be looking out for you. Your car does stand out, therefore they will have their laser pointed at you.......*click*....3 points....$450 for a radar dectector down the tube, cause its been smashed....$3000 over the next three years......oh yea...Plus the $120 fine. hmmmmmm.
Forget the radar detector, and just be very careful and pick your moments to speed.
Here's another consideration to factor in...Lets say your taking a trip thats 200Km...If you do 100Km/h, it will take you 2 hours. If you do 120km/h, it will take you 1:40 to get there...So ask yourself how much that extra twenty minutes is worth to you. Plus the gas cost of going faster too...At a dollar a litre, it will add up. Just more insight to consider. For all of us actually.

ditto.....and remember u can do 15 over before points are put on, then u have to wait two yrs for them to come off....but i think i can safely say speeding is not worth it....and i've been cuaght alot:( ...trust me having to go to court becuase of speeding is :bs: i've done it 3 times two for tickets once to keep my liscence ( that was last week)
but if u are going to speed try and stay away from high speeds near:
1. bendy roads ( where u cant see the end of the turn)
2. roads with hills
3. forested areas
the cops love those areas to hide....
