Is anyone interested in helping me out with my brake problem.
I forgot to show you guys at can-am what i ment. I have replaced everything and i have some weird noises with my brakes. Wondering if someone could take a day with me taking the brakes off and inspecting. Trying to locate the squeeking and the clicking. I will come to your place, im just sick of it and no mechanic can figure it out....starting to think of trading it in but not without a last fight. :banghead:

Have you tried Break squeak stop?

YEah man, tried everything. brake squeek stop, caliper grease, oiled the sliders, even took off perfectly good pads and put on different pads and the new ones squeek too. Could it be cheap metal in the rotor?

Could be that your rotor is warped

could be a heat spot on the rotor of whatever its called. if you didnt clean the rotor up good befoe you drove on it braking of grease of oil from your skin can make it messed up

Rotors were changed in november, then they started squeeking so i got them resurfaced in april, still squeek, and then i changed the pads and still going strong with the squeeking. im pissed i forgot to show you guys while you were all here.

That's a tough one. Does it happen all the time, or only when you apply the brakes?

michcougar

They squeek all the time, and then when i press my brakes it stops for a second, then comes back, then a loud clicking noise.....its realy embarasing

What kind of brakes did you buy?

Maybe it's just brutal parts.

Could be that your pads are moving around in the caliper

When you say you replaced everything can you explain exactly what you mean?

michcougar

Pads were premium ford pads, then i switched to the cheapest i could find (monroe) and no different from one to another.
Pads could be moving around but when i take the brakes apart everything looks fine. Thats why im wondering if someone could lend a hand and check it out with me. I have switched all the hardware from one side to the other and its no different, still squeeks on both sides. Could it be the fluid?? i have 2 new calipers, so im ruling those out.

Edit: List of parts replaced:
Balljoints, wheel bearings, lower control arms, sway bar link (drivers side),pads, rotors and like i said 2 calipers.

I just realized something.....when you got your new wheels, did you put on the hub spacers?

Also, try using monkey grease (or whatever it's called) on your rear sway bar bracket.

Not having the spacers in there won't make a squeaking noise... but it might account for the clicking sound he's talking about.

I dunno....mine grinded and squeeked like hell when I forgot to put one of mine on.

I guess it's a possibility. I drove without hub-centric rings for a week back when I got my Velox wheels. They never made a sound.

I dunno....might have to do with the bigger rims and the weight difference

I'm running out of ideas other than that.....oh....has an all wheel alignment been done? th toe could be out a bit....either that....or it could be a squeek in your suspension.

EDIT: I just realized....last year at Can-am weren't you the one with the VERY BAD rear suspension?

michcougar

Yeah, wheel alignment has been done. Everything was good there.
As for the rims, it did it last year with my stock, then in the winter i had winter tires and rims it did it then, and now with my chrome 18" no different.
I have noticed this morning that if i dont press the brakes it doesn squeek, once i press them once it starts, and never stops.
Someone mentioned to me mayve my hub is warped??? but i mean this is the same guy who told me it was my control arm bushings....lol and that didnt help.
Dan, no i havent had suspension issue (knock on wood). If it makes any difference it does it when the car is lowered and at stock height.

I know you said you replaced the calipers... but it sounds an awful lot like you have a sticking caliper.

Is there anyway of checking it for sticking?
Would this be a good time to get the willwood kit?

I had the same problem after i fixed my brakes and replaced every thing. it was embarrasing, i didnt kno what was wrong at all. i thought it was the brake pads but they were new. after 2 weeks i got tired of it and went to my mechanic, he said its not the brakes at all, he said i take the turns hard which resulted in a bolt somewhere under the car to unscrew. so check that out man. dont pay $ for brake check, 90% its the bolt

michcougar
06-22-2006, 10:00 AM
Could you please specify which bolt?
and im pretty sure it is brake related cause when i press the brakes a bit it stops then starts again the harder i press the brake, then theres the LOUD clicking aswell.
Im not sure how to tell if the caliper is sticking tho, could someone please explain how to check this?

okay, so today i drove by the ford stealership, stoped in.
They looked everything over and told me its the rotors, they have to be made specialy from ford cause they have a coating that work with ford pads.
Kinda makes sense, but then i thought to myself, everyone else uses aftermarket rotors and pads....so my question is should i order new rotors and new pads thru Bill and see if this fixes it?

HERES WHY I CALL THEM STEALERSHIPS....(for those who work at a ford dealer)
They quoted me 140$ EACH rotor, and 160$ for pads...not even intalled.
So then on Bills site its 80$ each rotor and 63$ for pads....So dont try and tell me that dealerships are not "stealing" from people.

Anyone?

I realize it's kinda dangerous but run the car on a lift and check the wheels from there. I've had to do it in the shop b4 and had good success when static checks didn't pan out.

i kinda have same thing, i had my rotors resurfaced 3 weeks ago, they were new last summer, new brake pads not too long ago either, but when i stop - front ones squeak... and it is all cleaned and greased.... dunno what it is... i'll just wait till break pads die and buy cross drilled rotors... may be will give some change

My brakes are shot now to. New rotors and pads as soon as I get it back from the Body Shop.
