AKA the DMD...
How much of a pain is it, and could someone assist me when I get it, and my CAI?

I know someone has, I've seen it in their sig, but I'm not sure it was an Ohio NECO member.

Well... I've never done it on a Cougar, but I've done it on other cars. Its just one big bolt, but the torque spec is ASTRONOMICAL, so its hard to get both OFF and ON correctly.

Well we have numerous torque wrenches. If you can find out what the specific pound it needs I can tell you if you I have the wrench for it.
Maybe this is something we all might wanna do, I hear good things about it.

But seeing as how its a pully, i guess it could be difficult to torque it down since it kinda spins...

An impact wrench is a must. My dad and i installed mine without one. I had a hell of a time doing everything. I couldn't even get it to the final torque spec cause my dad couldn't keep the engine from spinning while i tried to torque the bolt.
If your torque wrenches are all set to a specific setting then you'll need several of them. There is a series of instructions that you must follow when installing it. You can't just pull the old one off throw the new one on and torque the bolt. I don't have the numbers in front of me but i'm sure if you do a search on the forums somebody somewhere had to post the instructions on a dmd install.

There is a how to on CEG. I did mine before I dropped the new engine in. You will need a pulley removal tool to get the old one off, along with a new bolt. The crank pulley bolt is torque to yeild which means it must be replaced each time. If I recall with the engine in the car there is a way to stop the motor from spinning if you put in in either 1st or R, I don't recall I believe it says in one of the how-to's on CEG. Also, the pulley won't just slide on, it is recommended the you heat it up in the oven first so it will expand. Personally, I just lightly tapped mine on, but I was hot, tired, and delusional (sp?). Other then that you will need an adjustable torque wrench which I believe needs to go up to around 100ft/lbs and down to around 60ft/lbs as best as I can remember. But refer to the CEG how-to.

Thanks guys!
I just spoke to my dad about it, apparently he has replaced his on my brother's Escort, and a couple other cars in his youth. Im sure he and I will figure it out. I will check out the how to, but Im not sure what the CEG is?

Another Contour related site, less traffic on it, but fewer search Nazis too, is FordContour.org FCO (http://www.fordcontour.org)
More How-To articles on CEG, but both have good information.

Also instead of heating it up use the old crank bolt to snug it on then just torque the new one.

Dude! What's up. You haven't been on here in a while.
Btw. You can't link sigs from your C: drive, you'll have to upload them somewhere first. ;) Do anything new to the coug?

Dude this is simple as pie. Just read the how to and be sure to have an impact wrench. A lift would only help lol.
