So, for those that don't know, I commute from central western NJ every day into NYC. It's about 1h 45min door to door... every day, 5 days a week, and it sucks.
I work in National Advertising sales rep firm for Radio. My company basically is a Rep firm that sells airtime on our stations for national advertising spot radio. My company reps a large amount of stations, and we are the largest rep firm in the country...
My place of work is very cool, I work with awesome people, have a great time but the commute and commuter costs are killing me since the pay isn't soooo amazing.
Being a born salesman, and wanting to stay in sales, I have been on a few interviews for internal and external sales positions. Annoyingly enough, I got all of them.
I decided to take one of the closest positions, in a position that is more hated by consumers than any other occupation, even lawyers... I will be selling cars :)
WOOHOO... I'm damn excited. Seriously...
I had 5 different offers from dealerships, and opted for the one with the best pay plan (and the smallest sales force). I will be working for Baker Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep on Rt 206 in Princeton, starting in about 2 weeks.
I figured, I graduated college, and there's no good jobs for what I want to do, so why not choose one with better earning potentials than I have now. In any of my other sales positions I have always outsold all others in my area, even the seasoned veterans. So this should be fun.
I know some people find it cool to say, "Hey, I work in NYC... in Radio"... But F- That... I want more money, and I want more selling. This isn't the end of my road however. I had a second motive in choosing this. I'm in the process of scheduling a GMAT exam, and applying to local colleges (Rutgers or Rider), and getting my MBA... I will have a schedule at the dealership that will allow me to do this. So in a couple years, I will have even more sales experience, and my MBA... then I can get to where I want to be... A McDonalds french fryer :)... Just kidding... But seriously, I will finally be "qualified" on paper to get interviews in the areas where I currently fall short.
So that's my update... If you need or want a car... Give me a call... I will honestly help you out the best I can.
Well... back to NJNECO being a boring place...
