So the roomie picked up an 03 Monte Carlo SS about a week back. It's got balls, I'll tell you that much. They didn't offer a s/c that year, but it still puts out 200hp & 225lbs/tq. Not bad at all weighing in the same as my car.So obviously we had to run em. We've been wondering how they'd match up, I knew it would be close. They run around mid 16's stock.
We were on our way back from campus after dinner I got up behind him. Alright, lets do this. Get up on the freeway, he takes off, I follow suit. He slows down to line up. I throw up three fingers, specifying three honks, he nods and takes off. Hmm... I floor it but a corners coming up and I was already late. Lets do this again.
He slows back down, I throw up my fingers again and honk. The light bulb over his head lights up, he's got it this time. Ha ha. Slow down to 60, give it three honks and I floor it. Car downshifts, I look over to see him following suit. I start to pull slightly, then his front comes up to mine. I pull a bit more, he pulls right back up. We're neck and neck! We run right along side each other, me not being able to gain anything more then his front at my side turn signal before it evens out again. I shut it down at 110 and he does so as well realizing I slowed down. Good thing is he never pulled in front. Pretty good run, tried hitting a light off the exit but never got matched up.
Talking to him at the apartment I find out the Monte tops out at 110, I could've beat him! Ha ha, top speed race ftw. Nah, pretty fun race. I'm afraid he'll take me from a dig, but we'll have to take em out again sometime and see. He still needs to get traction. I'm quite proud my little modded 2.5 auto vs his stock 3.8 auto with vehicle weights almost identical. Not bad for a 1.3L advantage and gobs more torque. Win or lose, I still got him in handling. Now to get those secondaries working. :cool:
