Alright,
Think I've done it now.
Took apart my whole dash to put in my white face instrument cluster.
Taking the needles off was a little bit of a delicate matter, but got em off, put the new guage face on, put everything back to gether...yada yada yada.
Start her up my needles are everywhere...obviously I've put them back in the wrong spot.
Next thing I tried was disconnecting the negative terminal to let everything reset itself....about ten minutes later...same thing.
Any thoughts/suggestions?
Please help me! lmao.
I'm thinking that I just didn't leave the batt disconnected for long enough....I'm hoping.

I wish it was that simple. Unfortunately, you have a little more work ahead of you.

It's not hard, but it takes a little while to get everything set right.

On the 1999 and 2000 EEC-V Engine Management System, you can access the Diagnostic Mode by Pressing (RESET) and (UNITS) at the same time while turing on your car. Let go as the dials spin to the right. You scroll through the modes by pressing the (SELECT) Button

All done!!!
Tach may be off by 75 RPM's, but its all feel anyway...I you can't drive stick without a tach your shouldn't be driving it at all.
Speedo may be off by 1.5Km/H which is within the factory range anyhow.
Temp and gas were easy.
Thanks for everyone's help. Much appreciated....They should have done the guages like this in the first place. It looks mint. Especiall with the Cougar logo in the middle of the tach. Kinda reminds me of my mom's ol 95 Contour. She had the GL with the V6 so they had a V6 label in the tach...Its just a nice touch.

Maybe...I'm done with riping dashes apart for a while. ;) This wasn't too too bad...my '96 Cavalier was a royal pain to take off the dash.
Just gonna enjoy this the way it is for now.
Where do I get the LED's for for all the display's? Gotta keep the blue theme going here.
Deck, and Instrument cluster so far. I'll prolly wanna do my Air/Fuel, and Vacum Guage when I pick them up.

What do you need A/F and Vaccuum for? A/F gauges do nothing but strobe from lean to rich, and the state your car is in you A/F should be nothing to worry about. Vaccuum....what for?

No valid reason what-so-ever, except that it looks good. lol
The vacum guage will just move as apply more throttle.
Of course, I'm always open to suggestions.
I was also thinking of a oil pressure guage over the air/fuel.

I didnt bother with the cluster lights beyond a new face with blue lines... Why mess with lights that dont go on much or at all.... and why mess with lights you just might need in an emergency. Ill stick with a stock charge light and CEL lights :)
As for the rest i swaped out the switches and jsut about every light you see normally at night. Just picked some up off ebay on the cheap.

I don't own a digi.
More than likely, you'll see it on Sunday though. Just waiting to hear from the marina on the status of the boat and if it can be fixed.

Oil pressure, and since the ALTs/wiring are crap in the Cougars and you have a stereo Volts. Best of all they look cool and are 100% functional
BTW...can you tell I only like functional mods.....

Not gonna commit 100%, but more than likely.
If the boat can't be fixed, I might be spending the weekend with my Oma, shopping for a new boat, and making funeral preparations for the one we have now. :(
I should be hearing from the marina today, and talking to my Oma today right after. I'll keep ya's updated.
Edit: wtf...I forgot she has some appointments this next week with the doc's, so thats not the consideration...I guess it comes down to what kind of mood I'm in. If the news come back and says the boat is salvageable or if its dunzo. Either way....I should have an answer for tomorrow.

I got a pillar pod for two guages...My stereo already has a volt meter in it so I'm not really needing that.
I think I'm gonna go with Oil Pressure and Vacum...Oil Pressure for function and the Vacum guage cause it will look awesome when I nail the gas....Kinda similar to a boost guage. Hey...gotta have some entertaining items.

Get a Temperature gauge more functional than a vacuum gauge.

Do you mean an Oil Temp guage?
I want some entertainment too remember...The car has to be somewhat fun too, and a Vacum guage would look friggin cool. Peg the gas and what the needle move. HAHAHAHA....It will act very similarly to a boost guage...In essence, it's kinda like a throttle guage, if they existed.

No, Coolant temperature. Two things you should keep you eye on. Oil pressure and Coolant temperature.

If i ever get my gauge pods in... for some reason i think ill worry about voltage.

Thats what the coolant guage in the dash already is for. I don't need to know the exact temp...If I see that needle rising Beyond normal, I'm gonna pull over and check.
Definately agree with Oil pressure though...That was a good call.

Volt guage is also a good call given the Cougs reputation for alternators, but my stereo deck has a display to tell me the voltage reading. It's pretty wild that they did that.
So I think the final decision will be Oil pressure for function, and Vacum for fun...Always good to have diversification.

Isn't there an oil pressure gauge on the dash too??? Maybe I'm confused with the Mustang. Volt gauges are nice to look at but not much you can do if your Alternator fails. You won't need a gauge to tell you that.

No oil pressure guage on the coug...just the idiot light.
Very few cars have that. usually just gas, temp, tach, and speedo.

It's a sports car.
I meant to also say that you usually only see it in sports cars and trucks...A few of the older GM's (upper-end, up to mid-90's) had them too.
I covered my butt buy saying not to many cars have it!!! ;)
I'm not surprised the Coug doesn't though...Contour never did and it came off that platform.
Also I wouldn't really call it a sports car...Maybe quasi-sports car. :cover:
A real sports car has to be RWD to start...Anything else...no.

Hey,
Since I've started this thread, I'm gonna ask for some more advice here...If you want to invoice me, please feel free...I pay in "Thank you's".
Anyway....I picked up a skirt kit and its got left over tape on it. Tried peeling it off but its gonna take forever.
Is there any solvent I could use to help loosen it up with out damaging the paint?
I was also thinking of a hair dryer to make it more gooey maybe.

See if you can get a hold of some Speedy 500.
Not sure where to find it but some autobody shops use it to remove trim adhesive for paint prep.
