ya like the title says. so i was coming out of walmart into Jefferson turning right and as always i took off hard, i didnt even think a m3 was behind me. i slow down cuz the limit was 45 and the m3 comes beside me i look and it was young dude like 19-20 yr old in sunglasses and cap, he looks at me and floors it. i had to think bout it but wth lol. we come to a red light and i look at him, he said u wanna run, i now know what i got my self into, i said sure  , i asked him what transmition he has. he said NEITHER. (auto , manual) WHAT THE ****? any way light turns green and i floor it he took off slow, he GAVE ME A HEAD Start! i go in second gear and voooom he flies by. hmm i got burned but by an M3. can any one tell me what he meant by neither ?? whats diff that auto and manual. also what Horse power they have? i heard they have 400-500 HP STOCK!

if its neither auto or manny, its triptronic, and they DO NOT have 400-500 from the factory, the most any M3 came from the factory was the 2004 M3 GTR SMG tune and that had 356, stock M3 are rated at 333 hp at 7300 rpms

Its called Steptronic for BMWs.

When someone asks me auto/manual I ask which they prefer.

"we come to a red light and i look at him, he said u wanna run" That would make me think he wanted to race??

hahaha thats great!

and people are ricers because of stickers lights and stupid wings, lambo doors, large usless exhaust, etc..not wanting to race or racing. If I had a Muscle car I'd want to race other cars.. would that make me a ricer?

Peoplpe who assume that anything moving, and nearby, is trying to race them - are ricers.

Or people who have high-level sports cars and race stock Cougars.

ok that clears things up... I hate that, you drive by some punk and then they fly by you. Hence the phrase "ricer fly-by" I guess

That and "road tales" about racing full-size SUV's and trucks.

B3NN3TT

And on that note, I'm done with this thread.

BlackBetty

oo "I think his hinting that i'm a ricer" and on that note, the rode tales about the full size trucks that I race.. if you read closer, i was hoping to see that Mustang GT fly passed me, and the other guy was just a truck that I wanted to show up because like I said I hate guys with trucks who think they're fast.

But if you dont like my ricer stories you dont have to read them.."no ones got a gun to your head"

BmW's "tiptronic" transmission is actual SMG or "Sequential Manual Gearbox" not "steptronic" or whatever else I saw earlier. It's basically a quick shifting automatic underneath it all with a clutch. They actually roll back a bit like a stick does on a hill. Shift's pretty quick and has launch control (not here unless your dealer is nice to you and will flash load it)

"tiptronic" is actually patented by Porsche AG and is used under liceance by their parent Company Volkswagen A.G also Audi which is owned by V.A.G uses that term. They now have a new transmission called "DSG" or "direct shift gearbox" which is faster than any transmission in the world. i'll find a link to how it works for you guys, it's an interesting read if you haven't pulled one apart.

Other manufacturers use Tiptronic-like systems under different names:

Acura: SportShift
Audi: Tiptronic
BMW: Steptronic
Ford (Australia): Sequential Sports Shift
Hyundai: Shiftronic, H-Matic
Infiniti: Manual Shift Mode
Jaguar: Bosch® Mechatronic
Lexus: E-Shift
Mazda: Sport AT
Mercedes-Benz: TouchShift
Mitsubishi: Sportronic
Vauxhall/Opel: Easytronic
Peugeot: 2Tronic
Pontiac: TAPshift
Saab : Sentronic
Smart : Softip
Volvo: Geartronic.

BMW owns the rights on the name Steptronic.

EDIT: Forgot this was an m3..SMG is correct.

lol...thats the jag name for it? I assumed they didnt have it. I read the manual and it says that the j gate is for that ,which is bull. all it is, is the 2,3,4 gears that other cars been doing for years. oh and the M3 is a V8 the 335 is a turbo
