ok so ive been reading threads ALOT. i just want to make sure i bolt this motor in and it runs without hours of trouble shooting. labor and fabrication wont be a problem i have a garage. i know people will harass me for this but the harassment is better than having a basketcase cougar that wont run!
so im going to use a 2001 escape motor. from what ive read the UIM needs to come from a 2001 or newer taurus or sable for hood clearance reasons. will it bolt on the LIM from the escape? im going to use ADC's 2.5-3.0 chip. the fuel rail will have to be custom made because the escapes comes out on the opposite side, can i use the stock 3.0 injectors without any issues(will they plug in to the 2.5 harness, will my computer agree with them)? if not what injectors will have to be used???? all the sensors from the 2.5 must be swapped. a custom EGR tube will have to be made. i think i may have read something about the IMRC, this is what im most confused about..... does it need to be removed or will the ADC chip solve the issue? what else needs to be done to do a BASIC swap. well other than SVT cams but i can manage that... thanks!!

yea im going to do the basic one soon to, so a list of basic stuff to be changed added or removed would help alot. im going to use an 03 taurus motor for mine. thanks ahead of time

It depends on what type of fuel system you have, return or returnless...look under your hood and see if there are two fuel lines coming out. If their are two, then you're return. If you are return, you can't use the injectors, you'll need to buy 19# SVT's or some other return type (24#'ers like me from return style taurus/sable). If you're returnless then you are in the clear and you can use the stock 19# injectors that come on the escape motor...but yes, when you get your tune, it will need to be tuned for the larger injectors or you'll run rich.
all the sensors from the 2.5 must be swapped.
O2 sensors, oil pressure...I think that's it.
i think i may have read something about the IMRC, this is what im most confused about..... does it need to be removed or will the ADC chip solve the issue?
well, if you're going straight 3.0 swap like you said...the IMRC will not exist because you're using the 3.0 LIM.
what else needs to be done to do a BASIC swap. well other than SVT cams...
read...ALOT...it's not as simple as you think....trust me

You do not need SVT cams for a BASIC set-up. You can use the whole 3L motor if you wanted and drop it in.

wow i am seeing more of the straight 3L swap instead of us older guys who built the franstein 3L....3L block and heads with svt cams/uim/lim

no no the cams are a must.......lol basic other than that.....oh i just found my motor too!! it was going to be an escape but i found an 01 taurus with 50,000 mi on it for wayyy cheaper...so now i have to take the front cover of the 2.5 and the oil pan and put it on the 3.0 right?
fordrule

the front cover yes. buy an updated oil pan, and pickup......the 2.5 pickup wont work with the new updated 3l... from bill jenkins.....teamfordparts.com

the 2.5L pickup does work with the updated oil pan. Maybe not a 3L, but it works just fine on a 2.5L.

how much would one spend putting a 3l in a car? (with out labor)

heres me.
$800 for an 02 sable engine, with 7,092 miles.
$300 for gaskets, injectors, timing, fuel rail, etc. (maybe a little more, considering I sold some 3L parts for the ones I needed)
$200 for SVT cams
$245 for SVT UIM/LIM/TB
$640 for MSDS headers w/ xtreme (made our own mil eliminators) & a trubendz ypipe with removable cat
$500 for trubendz ss magnaflow
$40 for intake
$500 with xcal and dyno tune (yes)
$500 for SVT clutch and fidanza flywheel
all in total its around 3,725. No I don't have an LSD and I don't give a ****. I have this car to learn, and I have a professional to guide me as I go. If/when I blow the diff, I'll get a torsen. Then I'll really know what the stock one can handle. Yes I know everything has to come out again. And oh yea we ported the heads ourselves with the heads on to save labor fees, and head gasket replacements. The engine has 7,000 miles on it so I didn't feel the need to go replacing rod bearings and such.

the best piece of advice is
start stacking parts, watch the classifieds...people are selling svt parts on there. thats what i did. then i bought the engine and all the gaskets and went to town

not exactly, return 3.0 is 24#, returnless is 19#

more dissapointing news...........ADC is going to quit selling chips...........not that i cant get it done now but it was the cheapest way out! (college kid) haha Fuel injection scares me, this is the first time ive ever messed with anything that wasn't carburated........to get horsepower out of something without a computer is simple...this is a little more complicated :(

we might want t otalk to the mods to add a section in here just for tuning. or maybe a sticky for it

I can see why ADC would decide to stop selling chips. They probably have way too many issues with reburns. Sending them back and forth really causes a headache for both parties. Are they going to stop doing ADC tunes all together or just the chips? They could still do the X-cal tunes over email. Looks like people will have to find local shops that offer SCT tunes. That's probably going to be better for people anyway so they can get the cars on the dyno while the tuner tunes it.
