if we were to install the MSDS headers would we still be able to pass inspection....or if we got an upgraded cat wiht the headers...would we still be able to pass NJ emissions?

We think we will pass, as long as you make sure your car is warm when you have it checked... Apparently somebody in Cali got rid of the precats and passed emmissions.. And cali emissions are a *****! If, get a high flow cat, that will help.. and find a garage that will hook help you out if that doesnt work.

I wouldn't worry about it. Someone with a 95 Contour SE has headers and a gutted main cat. Even with no cats at all and a 5-6 year-old engine, he said that he passed but HC was on the high side.

no one has actually passed CA emission test with MSDS headers on a Cougar or Contour since we don't require smog until the car is 4 years old (aoounr march 2002 will be the first time any CA Cougar will be smogged). MSDS "projects" their header will pass the sniff test in CA but I don't think there is a guarantee. In theory, as long as your car is warm, the smog machine shouldn't even be able to tell the difference.
