So I've had my car for a few months now & last week it started making a chirping sound from the front passenger area. It's starting to make it more often now but usually only at or above 40mph. The sound reminds me of breaking a rusty bolt loose, kind of a squeaky chirp. The car also feels like I'm tapping on the brakes on the freeway sometimes although the cruise control is on..... I looked around & nothing appears to be broken, or too loose. I'm not sure exactly what I should be looking for, thanks for any advice

Have someone look @ your suspension/axle/wheel alignment.

Is the air conditioner on when you feel this? If so, it's probably just the compressor cycling on and off - in our cars, it feels like the engine missed when it happens.

I think the A/C is normally on,I'll check to see if turning it off fixes the stuttering feel. Also the car had a 4 wheel balance & alignment about 2000 miles before I got it. I've looked over the suspension & it doesn't look like anythign is loose, broken, rubbing, could it be bushings needing greased ? I'm hoping it's something simple, I'd rather not pay $500 to have a stealership or someplace like firestone fix it if it is something I can find & fix myself.

It occurred to me that if the chirping happens at the same time as the stuttering, and it goes away with the A/C off, it could be the A/C compressor's clutch going bad (chirping when it stops and starts).

well I got on the freeway today w/ the a/c off and I didn't have the stuttering. The chirping sound tends to happen either just before or just after the stutter.... I didn't notice whether it chirped today though...I'll pay more attention from now on and see what happens... as long as it's not a saftey issue & the a/c works it can wait until I have extra money..... hopefully thats all it is.... thanks forall the help

I think Skater nailed this one, sounds like the bearings in the compressor pulley are going bad, causing the sound...and when the compressor kicks on it is causing too much drag on the serpentine system, causing your studder.
