looks nice. Anyone have info on how to wire one of these up? I already have remote start from my alarm on my MTX so I assume I could tap into one of those wires some how.

Found Push Button Starter How-To:
First and foremost, you have to get past the fact that you won’t have a cigarette lighter anymore, and will not be able to put it back in. From what I could see, the lighter is molded into the plastic piece underneath the nice trim and you need to Dremel around it to get it out. So with that out of the way…
1. Remove ashtray and little trim ring from around the lighter, it should pull off with some gentle pressure.
2. With a Dremel tool CAREFULLY Dremel around the lighter. IMPORTANT: IF YOU GO TOO FAR TO THE PASSENGER SIDE YOU WILL CUT THE SUPPORT FOR THE TRIM RING AND IT WILL JUST FALL OUT WHEN YOU TRY TO RE-INSTALL IT! Dremel out enough for the back of the button to fit.
3. I used the Arogear Euro Type-R Button, which is the direct replacement for the S2000. It fits very nicely in the trim ring. Look for it on eBay. I got mine cheap.
4. Install the button in the trim ring.
5. With all that done, you need to work on the wiring.
5a. The button came with a relay with 4 wires in the relay and 2 off the back of the button. All the button essentially does is throw a ground.
5b. One wire off the back of the button needs to be grounded; I found that the ground for the lighter was the strongest around. It’s the white/blue wire. The other wire connects to the relay.
5c. Next you need to remove the panel off the bottom of the steering column, its 3 torx screws.
5d. Under the panel you will see a brownish cap on the back of the ignition, from that is a group of electrical taped wires, carefully cut away the tape exposing the wires.
5e. You are looking for 3 wires: Red-12v from battery, Gray/White-to the starter coil, and Yellow/Green OR Yellow-the ACC position of the ignition switch. (the ACC wire in my 99 ATX was solid Yellow)
5f. I used quick connect piggy-backs for a nice quick and reliable connection, since it doesn’t involve cutting any wires. Connect up all the wires according to your button’s instructions and you are good to go.
6. Now, if you cut the Gray/White wire from where you piggy-backed to the ignition, you will disable the start position of the ignition and only be able to use the button (you will still need the key, however). I didn’t do this, but if you like yours enough, I thought I would let you know how to do it.

Looks nice! That's almost exactly what I thought of doing with mine. BTW... you peeps from across the pond get a button for the front defrost?!?
Jeez! Between the front defrost button, the auto climate controll, heated seats, and god knows what else... We Americans really got screwed when it came to interior options. And Mercury is an American car company to boot. Go figure.

Yeah that may be the case, but you guys got other things we didn't...
Like the 35th Anniversary edition - the Cougar 2 in the US had a different rear bumper(so it appears!) Mercury emblams!!!

You still need the key.
It has to be turned to the position where all the lights come on.
(this is the same as the Honda S2000 btw)
The key is required to disable to imobiliser.
It is possible to stop the key from actually starting the car, but i left it so i didnt have to press the button all the time!
