Last night at around 8pm Christine was admitted to Victoria Hospital. She woke up on Tuesday very short of breathe and tried to just get some rest but it didn't get any better so we went to the Emergency room.

When they looked at her oxygen levels she is only at 80, she should be around 92+, needless to say she's been on oxygen since we got there. Since her oxygen levels are so low, they are concerned for both her and the baby, they refused to let her leave last night and put her on higher oxygen and intervenus.

Initial test results from last nights x-rays suggested a potential blood clot in her right lung, or beginning stages of phenmonia. I left the hospital at 4am, returning at 8am, and they are still conducting more tests. The last test being at noon, and still no answers. She was hooked up to blood thinners over night and the last scan at noon was to see if there is a blood clot since the initial x-ray wasn't conclusive enough.

I'll keep you guys updated.....but don't know how much info I'll have to post.

Just wanted to let you guys know.....also, we have the ultrasound to determine the babies gender tomorrow, so hopefully she is allright for that.

Thanks,

Dan

Hope everything turns out all right. The good news, as I remember it, is that the little one has a higher affinity for oxygen than your wife, meaning even though her levels were depressed, the little one wouldn't necessarily have even noticed the difference. :)

I'll keep everyone updated as I find out.

EDIT: Mark...the attachment should help you figure out the plate issue.

I should note...about the oxygen levels...I am an asthmatic and went for a smoke, thus leaving me a little weazy and slightly short of breathe....I hooked myself up to the same machine and jogged on the spot....I was still reading 97....shows a BIG difference.

And Dagerone....i'm pretty sure you are correct in what you said about the baby requiring less. They were mainly concerned about the stress's it's putting on her, then the baby due to low oxygen, coughing, and the fact she's at 5 months when it's in some pretty crucial development stages.

I'll keep everyone updated as I find out.

EDIT: Mark...the attachment should help you figure out the plate issue.

So it's just held on by 2 sided tape and a wire. Thats easy enough. I thought i might have to screw up into the bumper cover.

Thanks Dan, Now go Visit Christine. ;)

hamill
05-17-2006, 04:25 PM
update....looks like she's not coming home tonight either. She's been admitted to the 5th floor, I should have more of an update in an hour or so.

EDIT: and Mark...nope, not a single screw required :) perfect for track and car shows to remove.

When selecting a wire, look for something with a plastic coating. Keep working the "V" shape until it's flush with the bumper

I'm heading back to the hospital in about an hour to get a phone hooked up for Christine. At least now she will be able to talk to her family members.

Currently she is in the respiratory therapy ward of the London Health Sciences Center Victoria Campus.

Scary stuff man...My best wishes to Christine for a healthy and speedy recovery.

The good news is that she is in very capable hands and under constant surveillance.

Keep us posted man....No pun intented.;)

well, I just got back from the hospital and my dad was still there when I got there so she wasn't lonely :) on the way out, I passed my aunt, so Christine is now visiting with her.

The good news is....

1)Baby appears to be fine, they did an ultrasound and the heartbeat is not irregular and baby seems to be moving without difficulty.

2)there was a slight blood clot, but nothing serious and it's going away

The bad news....

1) Phenmonia, they are treating it currently but it's still hitting her pretty hard. She's coughing alot and VERY weak when she's off oxygen.

2) She's not going home tonight and according to the nurse I spoke to "she won't be going home for a few days".

good to hear that the baby is fine...and the Phenmonia will just have to run its course and then she'll be fine...

i had it wen i was an infant and spent a week in the hospital....

but i'll still be thinkin of them......

When I posted that the baby has a higher affinity, that actually means the baby requires more oxygen, not less. But it still works out to the baby's benefit in this case because what that means is that the kid gets first "dibs" to the oxygen in your wife's blood. Yeah, it hits her harder, but the baby doesn't feel the effects of her decreased O2sat as much. Incidentally, that affinity works AGAINST the kid in cases of carbon monoxide poisoning...the kid preferentially takes in the CO and suffers the ill-effects, effectively saving the mother from the poisoning. :(

But at least you know what's going on now. That's always better than not knowing. Good luck!

I was waiting to post until you found out something definitive. I'm glad that everything seems to be working out. I'm especially glad the baby is doing well. I'm sure Christine will be back on her feet in no time. She seems like a fighter.

yeah, I've been running back and fourth to the hospital and work since 1pm. Christine called me at 8pm and said she was going to sleep for a few hours because she hadn't slept yet either.

Since I got up at 7:30am (after going to bed close to 5am) I have done the following:

7:30-12 noon (at hospital)
Noon-12:30pm (ran home to change and shower)
12:30pm-5:15pm (calling hospital and in meetings at work)
5:15pm-7:15pm (back at hospital)
7:15pm-1am tonight I'll be at work. But I've been talking to Chris on and off b/c she can't make long distance calls from the hospital phone in her room so I have to call people for her and have them call her....this was another reason for leaving.

I have had people with Chris all day in my absense for the most part. What's saddening is her sister hasn't tried to call and ask about her or try to visit her.

hey guys, just got back from the hospital. I ran into my dad in the parking lot...he was just leaving from visiting Christine.

From all accounts they've got everything under control, she's still on oxygen, but isn't coughing quite as much. The I.V. has now been removed, so there is a plus :).

She keeps getting the sweats, and she seems to have an impression that there is a possibility that she may get to go home tomorrow. I have to admit, I'm doubtful since they have given her a menu to fill out for tomorrow's breakfast, lunch, and dinner and still have her on oxygen....but we shall see.

We obviously did not have the ultrasound today, but will try and get one later. Christine said thanks to everyone for the nice replies, she really appreciates it (I read the thread to her on the phone last night), she also was pretty happy that Cheryl called lol. On the bright side, she's getting better, and got ALOT of sleep yesterday.

things are looking better, and thanks to everyone for their support.

That's wonderful news!! although, I think you might be right, and she'll be staying a little bit longer :(

hamill
05-18-2006, 04:24 PM
I forgot to mention but she had a specialist come look at her this morning...he wants to go back to the oxygen through her nose (currently it's been a wet treatment with a mask) I'm assuming that was to help ease the coughing. She is going to try and have a shower today, so that should put her to the test as far as how her mobility is since the longest she has stood is like 45 seconds to get the 8 feet to the bathroom in the last 2 days, not to mention she got VERY short of breathe doing that yesterday.

Like I said, I hope she gets to go home (I'm going to clean up her place after work tonight) but I'm pretty doubtful.

EDIT: And have you guys seen the prices of cable in a hospital room? they want $48 for 3 days + tax + $5 administration fee and each additional day is $9.30.....that's insane! Yet it's $3.50 per day for a phone!....so well, Christine gets a phone and a game boy lol

...and on topic...Christine just called, Respiratory therapist said she's likely not coming home tomorrow....I figured as much.

Why would they let her go when she's still on oxygen. Last time I was on it, they took me off it for 24 hours before sending me home to see how I did and make sure the problem didn't re-occur.

MaverickFlyer
05-19-2006, 12:20 AM

well....it looks like they are VERY short staffed this weekend.....so she was sent home. I'm in shock....she can't walk down her stairs without getting short of breathe and they took her off oxygen then 2 hours later discharge her....WTF!

I'm 99.9% positive they sent her home not because she is better..but because

a) They need the hospital bed
b) they had a lot of requests for time off over the long weekend and are short staffed.

needless to say, she'll be bedridden for a while.

Sorry to hear about all this Dan. If you have any concerns, go back to Emergency. If her O2 sats aren't high enough, she'll HAVE to be re-admitted. What was her O2 sats off the oxygen before she left?

hamill
05-29-2006, 04:38 PM
she's feeling fine now, coughs occasionally, but doing ALOT better.

She needs Air conditioning....because she's to hot with the weather....makes her out of breathe.....they re-did the windows in her condo so her a/c unit doesn't fit anymore.

LadyX
05-29-2006, 04:44 PM
oh that's nice.. :s so, what are they going to do about it?

hamill
05-29-2006, 04:50 PM
well...we were planning on getting central air eventually, but with me just buying brakes for the cougar, plus buying the car, I'm a little short on cash.

Soooo....for now.....I'm going to go over there tonight after work and "make" the air conditioner fit. Christine did the measurements on it and said it's a centimeter to big.....I'm thinking a hammer to each side should dent it in enough to fit :)

LadyX
05-29-2006, 05:06 PM
hahaha!! poor you guys :( You'd think that since they did the windows, they'd have made some kind of allowance...isn't there an air conditioner sleeve?

hamill
05-29-2006, 05:36 PM
no....I built one.

I am going to mess around with it tonight and we'll see what happens. Her parents are staying at her place and they were all "let's put in central air today and we'll pay for it.....but you have to pay us back" it's crap. They are staying there, for free, sleeping in her bed, parking in her laneway...and know she is tight for cash, and that I don't have the cash right now.....but hey, let's take their needs above all others.

hamill

her's are taking me to another level of frustration. They don't do $hit around the house. I just put new floors in (laminate hardwood in the dining room, kitchen, foyer, and hallway) and brand new carpet and underpad in the living room over the past month and completely re-painted EVERYTHING. Total cost was allmost $2K They bring 2 cats and a dog down, have spilled coffee over the floor and leave it there, leave their dishes around.....aaaaaaarrgh

they drive me nuts...there is a thing called respect and sometimes I have to wonder if they understand the meaning.

EDIT: Even my dad said to me and Christine before they got here "if I was coming to stay with you guys I would not be expecting to sleep in your bed, not to mention, I wouldn't be bringing my animals, they are not your responsibility they would be mine, and I would have to make arrangements. If I didn't want to sleep anywhere but your bed....and it's your bed....I'd be getting myself a hotel."
