View Full Version : Question Regarding Hood Scoops!

Don't all visteon and visteon style hood scoops have bolts molded into the bottom of them!? I think I am about to buy a visteon scoop and I don't think there are any bolts sticking out of the underside...How am I supposed to secure it to the hood? Double-sided mounting tape and silicone?

i always thought they used straight up 3M tape :shrug: could be wrong

Oh....hmm? Well...I have a visteon style hood scoop right now and it has eight bolts sticking out of the underside of it, that have been pre-molded into the fiberglass. This makes for a very secure mount. It also uses 3M tape around the front and edges. But I didn't know that there were versions with no bolts at all.

I guess there are 3 tabs that stick down below the contour of the scoop...anyone familiar with how to mount these?

depends on if you are talking about the original Visteon hood scoop... if you are there are 6 holes built into the underside that hold screws to secure. Visteon did not supply you with the screws but it came with a paper template so you knew where to drill.
The aftermarket fiberglass knock off came with 3M tape only I believe and for the Roush listed Ford one I have no clue.
now having said that if anyone wants to purchase a laser red hood with authentic in perfect condition visteon hoodscoop on it already gimme a PM.. the thing needs to find a new home soon as its been in storage since 2001

the Roush scoops that came on the cougs from the factory have bolts already in the fiberglass also

^^thats correct i just shipped the one i had out last week. it had 6 or 8 bolts made into the bottom of the scoop.

My Ford one has 6 holes for screws and 2 "bolts" that hang down at the front for nuts.

thats exactly how my Visteon is.... Back in 2001 I had to pay 300 for it.. pretty crazy eh?

you can actually still order the scoops thru ford and they come painted in the colors they were available for. the price tag is around 6-800$ though depending on color...lol
