i have a 99 atx and do not have the money to drop in a mtx. i searched on here and on the web and found a B&M kit. here is the link ( http://performance.drivewire.com/transmission/mercurycougartransmissionshiftkit.html ) i just wanted to get an opinion on this one and if there are any others out there what are they.

Thanks Jeff

A local tranny shop in NY quoted me $2000 for a fully built ATX tranny which included a core exchange! Call your local tranny ships and get quotes.

this might be an obvious question but what does the shift kit do?

a shift kit in a nutshell pretty much allows your tranny when it shifts into gears to get 100% hydraulic pressure right away instead of having a dampened soft clutch application. That way you can get into gears faster.

I'm grasping at straws here, but I BELIEVE the 4r70w is the slushbox used on the MN-12 platfrom (1989-1997 Ford Thunderbird, Mercury Cougar, and Lincoln Mk VIII) so I would definitely call before you buy.

BigBalledOX is pretty much right. You have to watch everything with our car. Pretty much if it's not "overpriced" or "custom ordered / internet specialty site order" it's probably for the wrong year Cougar. For some reason there is something extremely hard for every single company out there to figure out there's a 99-02 Cougar and love to list things wrong.

Contact Axiom for a fully rebuilt valvebody with revised pistons & seals. The Transgo kit is a good addition to an unmodified VB, but the revised VB's that AXIOM sells already has a lot of fixes that the kit contains. Adding the kit to an AXIOM VB would be about all you could do to the VB.
