hello all. I had some time yesterday after class so i dropped by my mechanics shop to finalize some stuff on the escape motor he is puttin in for me. In the conversation exhaust cam up. I told him that after the swap was complete i would be puttin in a tru dual stystem with an x-pipe, Then he laughed for a good minute or soo. He said there is no point to that and that the y pipe and exhaust i have on there now would be no different than true duals performance wise???? He also said that the true dual piping would run parrellel all the way to the back in the same way the stock piping does. Is this true and What does a drue dual kit lok like for the cougar anyway?? Any imput would be nice. THANKs

IMO, unless you are going all out with your engine buildup, you'd be wasting money building a true dual exhaust.

3.0,svt cams, new pistons, svt upper(port and polished) and lowerintake manifolds, svt 65mm optimized throttle body, New clevite rods + bearings {all that has been done to an 01 escape motor} and plan to have a dry shot along with small turbo

Have you upped the compression any on those pistons? If you don't have any major internal modifications planned than I would say true duals probably won't amount to much gain. It will be an improvement, but only 2-3 hp. If you plan on running a turbo, then I wouldn't waste my money. IMO

along with small turbo

 Oh, Jebus. Here we go again...

What in the living hell are you doing building an exhaust setup when you "plan" on having a turbo? You realize that you have to completely re-plumb the exhaust piping for a turbo and that your stock connections are all but impossible to connect to???

We've already been over this- 99.99% of the people that come on this board and talk about turboing the Cougar are full of so much :bs: it's coming out of their ears. If you're not, more power to you- Please prove me and that percentage wrong! Turbos are ridiculously expensive and complex to fit to these cars, either the old ADC kit or home-fab job. I know the former is a PITA, ask Instigator about the latter.

lol, im sorry to hear that but i definetly am turboing the 3l after its in. I have been working sonce i was twelve years old and i have saved all of my money. I have budgeted out 6 grand for my build up and have spent 1000 on engine and parts swap wioll cost me 700 and that leaves me with 4,300 left. With that money i will do the turbo , a dry shot, exhaust, Just bought the gmk intake, And all thats left over will go into the tranny.!!. I will be done with the 3l by july 10th and the exhaust comes right after that then at the end of the summer probably turbo orrrr supercharger if i want to save some money. Last will be the spray. I was challenged by a group of my friends that only go for muscle cars. They classified my car as a ricer so i got pissed off and i want to get them back. Soooooo yea thats my life story. Im trying to save as much money as possible so if true duals wont do much ill go with 2.5 single piping. Thanks for the imput

I'd say on your budget go with the Thomas Knight Supercharger kit. The turbo is going to run you more than you think and it's very complex.

I have been working sonce i was twelve years old and i have saved all of my money.

Then don't waste it on this car if you want to be fast. Even my setup only nets a 12 second quarter mile. That is IF I can get axles to hold. This chassis cannot handle more than around 300fwhp. It simply does not have the proper weight distribution and bracing for the kind of power you need to make.

I was challenged by a group of my friends that only go for muscle cars.

You're screwed. The Cougar is not a muscle car, it will never be a muscle car. Deal with it.

They classified my car as a ricer

Then they've already made up their mind about the car and THEY need to deal with it.

so i got pissed off and i want to get them back.

Never happen. Unless you do a setup like mine or an RWD conversion. The latter means you no longer have a Cougar- You have a chopper-style muscle car.

Soooooo yea thats my life story. Im trying to save as much money as possible

How about stocks? Mutual funds? Real estate? How's your 401(k) looking???

so if true duals wont do much ill go with 2.5 single piping. Thanks for the imput

With an F/I setup you'll need a 3" exhaust. Good luck.

LMAO , awesome thanks for the uplifting comments dan. AS for buying a new car.... yea right i got this one dirt cheap and theres no way i could afford another one, that was my first thought. My friend has a werked 350 dropped into a 84 trans am and with my stock setup he only burns me obviosly but after all the work is done i hope to keep up with him. THen ill just stop trying after he gets his supercharger. and A three inch exhaust??? Is that really neccesary?

3 liters + F/I? You'd better believe it...

As for me being "uplifting", you now see why someone on the boards made me that avatar... :disgust:

Tell your friend to go back to the trailer court with his mullet car. :) That wil get back at him for calling you a ricer.

You shouldn't even be expected to keep up with them. Your car isn't in the same class. It's completely different.

take them to autox and blow them away. That is where your car will perform its best, and their boats will suffer greatly.

if your gonna race them, race them where you will have an advantage. In autoX YOU will outclass them.

Yea i think the gto might still have me their too.. But deffenitly theres a park by my house with twisting roads and its so funny cause they all get in front of me in the begining cause its mostly straight road then it turns into like 5 or six sharp turns then some long loops where i proceed to laugh as i pass their bright ass taillights
