My buddy has a 2000 or 2001 cougar mtx v6... thats all i know... i got tired of him complaining that there was no aftermarket for his car and that performance wise, he wanted more. The car looks sick and its stereo makes me cry... (3 JL w-3s, mb quart speakers, eclipse amps) but he is wanting more when it comes to performance, he just picked it up about a month ago, and claimed there was nothing he could to do it.... I know for my car, on www.clubgp.com , the grand prix forums, there is a sticky regarding the first performance mods someone should make if they want to be quick. I searched and searched on here, and found that there are headers for your cars by msds and weapon rice? and after that, I am lost- both because I dont know aaaaanything about the cougars, and because im coming from grand prixs... so....

what performance mods are out there and what would he see from them?

what vendors are most commonly used?

whats the quickest cougar out there (1/4 mile please)?

and thats about it... sorry for intruding, but I really wanna help out my buddy and get his car rippin'

If your friend is serious about wanting a "quick" Cougar, he needs to go pull that stereo crap out of his car quick, fast and in a hurry. Heavy fiberglass body kit? Thats gotta go. Big blingin wheels? Say bye-bye to those too.

The "bare bones" mods would be intake, headers and exhaust. A member here by the name of GrandMasterKhan makes cold air intakes for the Cougar and he currently is offering discounted pricing on his system.

Headers are only available from MSDS. Weapon Rice reached a legal settlement with MSDS that does not allow for the Weapon CRap stuff to be sold new anymore. You may have a used set show up now and then, but never knew, at least not here.

Exhaust? www.trubendz.com.

Go get some and then come back for more later.

With the decent tires and suppension any MTX Cougar with basic bolt-ons is looking at anywhere in the 15-16's for the 1/4 mile. If your really good, and you have the car setup just right with a 2.5L you can break into the 14's. If you go any type of F.I. (ie. S/C, Turbo, or Nitrious) low 14's and lower are obtainable. The cougar is not a very good 1/4 mile car it's kind of heavy, very difficult to launch right, and wheel spin and wheel hop is a big problem for these cars.

you could always get a 3.0L engine swap and go from there....but as far as good 1/4 times, ive never seen below 14...but that may be because im kinda new here

also...the cougar (in MY OPINION) is more of an auto-X car...

Its more of a fact than opinion.
