View Full Version : How to make coolant tank look good?

I think the stock coolant tank is horrid looking in our cars. I've made the rest of my engine bay look pretty good, but that coolant tank is gross looking (stupid clearish yellowish plastic). Also the power steering fluid and windshield washer fluid tanks look bad too. How can I make these look better? I thought about purchasing the Weapon R tanks, but they get rid of the internal baffles and fluid level sensor. I want to keep the functionality of the tanks and be able to see when the fluid is at "Max" or "Min" but yet make it look better. What do I do!? Some people said to paint them, but then you can't read when the fluid is at max or min. What do you guys think? Any creative ideas?

you could mask off a vertical stripe where the level marks are and paint the rest
how would paint hold up on that plastic though?

look for one of the covers they make for the ford focus coolant tank. its a black shroud that slides over the top. if i remember right from the pic i saw the tanks look the same in both cars. also if you want to paint them, use krylon fusion, its made for plastic and doesnt scratch to easy.

I don't think the coolant tanks are quite the same in the focus...I'm pretty sure I read that in a post somewhere. But the Krylon paint, I forgot about. And I'll probably just have to mask off a stripe like Goldie said...Thanks for the quick input. I was just hoping that somebody else had already done something to their tank and liked it.

have you thought about painting them with the VHT tinting paint.....I dont know if it would work but that paint allows light to show through so if you took of the cap and put light in there you could see the level I assume, but then again when you assume you make and ASS out of U and ME.lol
Just an idea

I used Krylon Fusion paint on mine and to me I think it turned out pretty good! The only thing I did was tape a horizontal line all the way around and then sprayed it. And it doesn't scratch easy either.

It's doesn't even look close to fitting on my 1999 Cougar V6 MTX...My tank has the cap in a different spot and is much longer....
