View Full Version : best tire size?
Ok so i've always heard smaller tires are better for accellerating from a dead stop.. in addition to my 17" zn wheels, i've got 15" and 16" stock cougar wheels available to me, and i'm gonna be running at a 1/4 this saturday... should i stay with my 17's or use one of the other sizes?

I think what makes the real difference is weight. I would weigh them all and put the lightest set on. Let us know your times when your done!

Yup, I would go with the lightest of the rims. I run a lot better times with my stock 15's than with my 17" ones.
should i swap all 4 wheels or just the fronts?
what psi would you run at?

I feel that the fronts are what makes the difference. I have been running around with 17's on the rear and stock 16's on the front for three weeks because I've been planning on going to the track. Every week my brother in law has a new excuse as to why he can't go! This week I am going with or without him. I generally run with the psi around 18-22.

Smaller diameter wheel/tire combos effectively lower your gearing and reduce unsprung weight.
Something like 225/40-15 on some lightweight (lighter than stock) 15x7" rims would probably be ideal.
I would run the fronts at around 20psi with 40-series tires, or 17 with 50-series.
Just keep the rear tires at around 40psi to minimize drag.
