Transmission: 2002 Mercury Cougar transmission. Shipped to HMS for the works:
- slick shift (moly coated gears)
- revised shift forks
- "keyed" tower (never deal with a brocken bolt problem)
- "keyed" gears & shaft
- revised case mod
- fitted with 2.3L focus shaft (one-piece) w/ 3.82 Final Drive Ratio
- Double 3rd gear synchros added
- Torsen T2 differential
Short of a full Quaife gearset, this is about all that can be done to an MTX-75 to ensure durability in high torque/horsepower applications. The trans has been tricky since day one to shift into 3rd, but I'm not sure if it was shift cable related or synchros. So, the trans will be going out to Terry Haines for a teardown and inspection before selling. Because of this, I can't budge on the price at all.
