Okay i got an 01 2.5L atx im was goin through alot of info today, forgive me if i skipped something but, from what im gettin its easier/typical to get the 3L blocks from the taurus/sable/escape/tribute...and if u go for the LS/S-type/Mazda 6 ur askin for wiring night mares, now im kinda wondering how different the ECU's are....but im not too sure but couldnt u put wanna one of the variable valve timing motors in and control the timing w/ like a e-manage ultimate or some other controller, cause the i think the horsepower difference would kinda possibly be worth a couple headaches if u know what your doin a plan it nicely....but im jus curious and started lookin under the hood of my moms S-type and checkin around, anybody attempted it yet? but then again that thing is also awd and has that sport shift/manual thing goin on, so the ecu might be way different....

no one has done it. I am sure if you had the entire front clip from a totaled Mazda 6 then you could do it. since you would need bascially the entire wire harness and likely have to use the Mazda 6 ECU and guage cluster.
having said that. People are making more power with the sable/escape engines and porting the heads out to match SVT 2.5L intake manifolds and using SVT cams than the Mazda 6 guys are. So, is it worth the trouble? Hell no.

The S-type is rear wheel drive only BTW. It must be an X-type if it's all wheel drive.
The stock ECU has the pins for the variable valve timing but they are blank on the connector. There was some guy on CEG working on getting it to work but we never heard back from him so I'm guessing no. You can do what you want but I'd say it definately isn't worth it. Have you checked engine prices. It's probably quite a bit more for the Jag or Lincoln engines. Last I checked they were about $1000 more at least. Put that $1000 toward the supercharger kit that is coming out for $2000. See link below:
