Before you'd have to cut your factory wiring harness and wire a compatible to install an aftermarket radio. But now they sell kits that let you bridge that connection from the factory harness correct?

Anyone know any sites that sell replacement factory harnesses for our cars? I'd like to clean up the wiring back there plus have it ready for a new radio.

Is this what you are a talking about? Metra Online (http://www.metraonline.com/product_listing.php?year=2002&make=Mercury&model=Cougar%20(w/%20dual%20media%20or%206%20disc%20in%20dash)&type=Turbo%20Wire). If not, my bad.

thats a little confusing..are you saying you cut your factory harness out and need to replace it or are you looking to add an aftermarket deck and need a connecting harness TO the factory harness?

Both. Factory harness was cut to install an aftermarket radio. Now I plan to add a new HU and want to use one of those factory to aftermarket painless wiring kits, but first need to put (solder) the factory wiring harness back in.

Which I no longer have, so I'll have to buy a replacement.

john, click that metra link, you need both of those harnesses, the one on the right, is what would be the factory harness, and then the female side connects to your after market deck and plugs in...
