easy enough ... 2 screws at the bottom of the compartment ...
take off your shifter, and pull all the way up on the brake.
take out that compartment you store your loose crap in, and the cig light cover (Screw behind each of them)
and then slide that ***** out ... if its an atx, remember to remove the light under the shift plate =)

and a screw on each side down by your feet (with plastic caps covering them).

I wish the effin guys at the junkyard where i got my 01 console had listened to me. They broke all the screws except the ones by your feet. LOL

it also makes a difference if you are trying to remove an ATX center console. you need to pull the shifter out first... you first remove that little hex screw in the side [be very carefull its easy to strip the head], then pull straight out WITHOUT TWISTING. be carefull pulling it out, the OD wires run through it, you want to snip those as low as possible so you have enough wire left over to reattach it later.

i have to paint all the stupid gray cause I blacked out the entire interior except the center console. finally got it done, apparently the owner before did not like the console swagger because there were a good 6 or seven screews randomly holding it in, along with a braket that was custom made that sat underneath the cupholder. wich probolly woulda werked pretty good if it was snapped in half.. when i get a camera im gonna post pics.

thats the last piece i have left to paint, except i want to get a new console from a junk yard so i don't have to rip off my carbon fiber look

ok I had to pull my center consol again last night, so for anyone thats still curious.
you need to remove the screws, there are 2 [or 3] at the bottom of the storage bin, and 2 on the front sides of the console.
pull out the ashtray.
remove the panel that covers the cig lighter [the clip on on the top side].
there may be 2 screws holding this ashtray section to the dash [I dont remember].
pull out the shifter [as described in my earlier post].
snip the OD shifter wires low enough that you can reattach them.
try to lift the console enough to get your hand in there to push the shifter plate off [the tab is located even with the D symbol].
engauge the parking brake.
turn on car.
place car in drive.
turn off car.
[there are 2 wires running to the back of the cig lighter that you need to remove]
now to remove it, the first item you need to clear is the parking brake.
this is done by lifting the rear of the center console and lowering the front so the ashtray area extends into that recess area below the stereo.
now you slide the console forward to clear the parking brake.
once you clear the parking brake, you pull the center console out at about a 30-45 degree angle so the ashtray area clears the stereo area.
