Ok, since no rebuild kits can be found, I am looking into replacing the whole thing myself. I have a 99 ATX, the band b/w 1st and 2nd is broke it just skips 2nd all together.
I found a few replacement trannis all for $500 but they said there is two letters on the tranny. Thye need ot be matched! Does it really or is it bs?

might just be your shift cables. i had that issue too. you go to 1st and it slides to 3rd, 2nd goes to 4th.
just replace your shift cables, not your entire tranny.

Falcon what do you mean no rebuild kits exist. You can get every part you need from Ford. What year is the CD4E your looking at? They are asking because there are slight differences in them. Mostly internal changes. Anything 99+ will work. I would look at 01+ personally since they got the latest revisions.

I have a 99 ATX...I am saying there are no rebuilds kits b/c I posted about 5days ago about a rebuild kit and no one said nothing so I assumed one does not exist "out of the shop".
Just want o fix it...cheaply as possible...this is not the cougar I am continuing to mod.

They sell rebuild kits. So does Level Ten. You can also get all the parts from Ford. True it's not a kit but you have access to everything.

Im pretty sure its not your shift cable because on an automatic you only need that mo to get into gear. Sounds like a solenoid issue.
