My dad owns a 1989 Mercedes 190. Its a 2.6 liter 6 cylinder atx. He says he can beat my 2000 Mercurcy Cougar. Mine is a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder mtx with weapon r intake, 9mm ford racing wires, bosch spark plugs, and short shifter? He wants to race me in a 0 - 90 drag. Were gonna take them out to my friends drag strip and race them in a few days. who do you guys think will win? I tested my 0 - 60 and it was 7.2 seconds on a SLIGHT down hill slope. I have no clue what his is? so...who will win!

I'd say your 7.2 is generous.
He will murder you.

A stock 2.5 L does 0-60 in 7.7 seconds. 7.2 seconds in a 2.0 L???

It's hard to say because the Mercedes may not be running perfect where your car is newer and more likely to be running up to its potential. How about instead of guessing who will win, just find out. It's not exactly a race to watch like a twin-turbo mustang vs a supercharged corvette, so hyping it isn't necessary, just got do it and let us know if it's interesting

well... i won, by like 8 lengths. We took it to a strip this morning. We both did a pre run to warm up our cars. My dad couldnt get his to burn out, while mine on the other hand could, but anyways. We ran a 1/4 mile. Red, Yellow, Green! I spun my tired for a second or so while i was in first gear. He didnt peel out. I was already a car ahead of him. I switch into second and my tires spin a tiny bit...i love doing that. Fathers Mercedes still behind...1 1/2 lengths now. I know i shouldnt of been paying this much attention to him, but i was just curious why he thought he could beat mine? The rest of the quarter mile basically continued that way. Everytime i shifted id get farther and farther ahead. All i remember when i passed the 1/4 mile mark was my dad hitting his steering wheel. He was pissed. But i won 20 bucks.

A geo metro with a 3 speed manual can burn out, trust me. I never understood why people thought burning out was "cool".
What'd you guys run in the 1/4 mile? I call bs on the 8 lengths.

good kill. his car should run a 16.8 stock, and then its an auto, and its older, so i don't see why so many people are doubting this....

because people are Stupid!
where talking about a freaking Mercedes Lead Sled granny mover here and with an "amazing 2.6L 158 hp I6" though only 2900lbs its still a boat. I Might as well go hop in my 83 Vw scirocco and smoke it with its amazing 74hp.
Good kill man! I had faith! (lol would have liked to have chimed sooner but i dont check this section often)

Alright... gotta throw my .02 in. I'll tell ya right now that there's nothing wrong with your Dad's 190E. Unless you consider having an underpowered engine as a "problem." It is a much slower car.
I work at a Mercedes dealership. I've driven just about every model offered back to the late 70's and know Benz's up and down. Until around 1998 Benz's were not extremely fast cars. In fact, the fastest Mercedes ever produced until 1998 was the '95-'97 C36 AMG and its 0-60 time was roughly 5.9 seconds which was even faster than the SL600 with a V12. Up to '98 Benz's were heavy cars built for luxury not speed. General rule of thumb, unless it has a V12 or a 5.0 V8, expect the car's 0-60 time to be in the mid-8's. Here's a tip: Racing a Cougar vs a Mercedes is pretty much a sure win if the numbers on the back of the Benz are less than 300.
I owned an '02 Zetec Cougar and I even owned a '93 190E 2.6 for about six months back in '04. From the day I first drove the 190 I could tell it was a much slower car. I'm not surprised at all that you won... I would have slapped you if you didn't  j/k
Congrats on your victory! :)

lol, thanks for that. I was wondering why so many people doubted me? His mercedes, he said is the smallest one they make. But, yea, it was fun. Now my dads V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Im not goin near that. That can haul a trailer and still probably beat me lol.

Yeah, the W201 chassis 190-class was the precurser to the present C-class. But that was the biggest motor available on the 190, there was also a 2.3 I4, a 2.3-16v I4, a 2.5 I5 turbodiesel, and a 2.2 I4 diesel. I would have wanted the 190 to have been offered with the 3.0 from the 300E but what can ya do, right?
One other thing I forgot to mention, Mercedes (until recently) never had much oomph off the line. Ya have to remember that these cars were designed for the Autobahn; high-speed cruising. The transmissions lag off the line and many of the cars do not have any bottom-end torque... but when you're doing 100kmh+ on the Autobahn, who needs bottom end torque?

You're ignoring me. I never said you didn't beat him. I simply said burning out wasn't cool, and is no meausre of horse power, and I don't believe you put 8 cars on him. Go ahead, read em.
I guess I'll go ahead and say nice kill, but I think the 8 cars is exaggerated. Seriously though, what did you run in the 1/4 mile.

8 cars is about a second and a quarter advantage. I would say thats reasonable.

correction as to what i wrote earlier...i have to concur with GMK....this does sound reasonable now.

i didnt doubt you for a second, my friend drove a '71 280SL (his dads) all summer last year and got flat out smoked by a VR6 jetta almost every day. mercedes cars definately arent out of our league in terms of speed. nice kill.
