so i looked trough most of the threads and didnt really find the answer i was looking for.

i have a pretty much stock 2.5L and was wondering what type of clutch would be the best to replace the one i have thats basically shot.

is it worth aftermarket? or should i stay OEM? and whats some good companies that i should be looking at for clutches?

thanks

Get an SVT clutch , just SVT OEM replacement clutch and Pressure Plate...

Its about $270 from Bill J. @ TeamFordParts

Definitely the best clutch for what you have and is very durable..

If you plan on keeping your car pretty much stock, then get the SVT.
If you plan on modding, get the CenterForce. I got a Spec Stage 1, and have regretted not dropping the extra cash on the better clutch. My Spec chatters like crazy too.

I am running a SPEC stage 2 in mine, and have had no issues. Holds extremely well. Like most parts, there are the good and bad stories for everything. I would recommend the SPEC, but then again I have not run the Stage 1 unit

Spec and Centerforce are ok, people just love them because the spend the most $$$ on advertising and their listed just about everywhere.

The SVT is ok, good stock feel and a little more performance, but will not last any longer. You will spend a lot of money for what you are getting though.

The absolute best thing you could do is get either a Clutchmasters Stage 1 clutch - they have a GREAT feel, not hard to disengage, and will last forever. Or, my personal favorite is Competition Clutch! They make Stage 1-5, but also have an "OEM replacement" that actually feels better than the OE clutch, but will hold 40% more HP and will outlast anything else out there!

Call Competition Clutch and ask for either the:

Carbon Kevlar Series 2100

or

Gravity Series 2400

Their phone number is 1-800-809-6598

Trust me on this - we have used both of these companies on both our street cars and professional race cars at work and have never had any problems... I would personally choose the Comp Clutch though.

I second the vote for Competition Clutch - I have the gravity kit myself (stock replacement - 40% more holding power) and you can not go wrong. Then again, you can make any clutch last forever if you know how to drive stick really well. I had 260k miles on my last car with the origonal clutch and it still didn't slip. 150k on the stock cougar clutch, no slipping.
