I have done some reading but cant afford to purchase any manuals. I bought a salvaged 99 cougar that I liked, and now love, thanks to this site. BUT, it was a light wreck, the passenger airbag blew and has been replaced, the car came with the 'Airbag Control Module 6' - '98BP-14B056-AAE' - SN 612235169003 floating in the backseat. Everything I have found points that it is behind the stereo sorta, in the dash, but I have been hesitant about pulling the entire dash apart before feeling pretty certain its there (pulled panels to look, and havent found it). Any help would be appreciated. ALSO There was an xtra ECU in the car, but im not certain as to why its there, as the car seems to run perfect, short of a bad 02 sensor and the airbag light staying on. After looking at a manual, and finding the ECU it doesnt look like the one that was in the car, how can I identify this extra ECU? Thanks for any help.. Jimi.

:needpics:

or perhaps the location of this second "ECU"

The airbag control module is in the dash IIRC, I remember seeing it, I just can't remember where  (sorry it's been like 8 months since I've had a coug)

The airbag code, can be cleared by the dealer, it runs off a separate controller, so clearing the ECU will not reset it.

replace the 02, clear the light, and you should be good.

(note- if anything in this seems jumbled, you'll have to escuse me, its been a very rough day... and its not even half way over :banghead: )

The 'Airbag Control Module 6' is to the right of the steerring wheel under the dash. Take the dash panel off that is right under the steering wheel, lay in the floor board and look up at the steering wheel shaft thats under the dash. its right next to it on the right. It should be silver with a big yellow tag on it. it may be covered up by wires or it may be gone completely thats why there is one in the back seat. ill post pics of it in a few to help.

I will post a pic of this extra ECU that was in the car to see if it rings any bells..

Thanks for the help with the airbag module, I will check it out first thing in the morning..

I'm interested in this post too. I have been trying to find the resistor values to simulate the airbag for the stock seats to plug into the yellow connectors under the seats since I rid of them and got aftermarkets.

My airbag light is blinking constantly which means the other 2 won't fire if I get in an accident... not good. Any more info would be helpful.
