you have to be creative.

I would start out on something smaller and not inside the car. try making some small things until you get the comcept and then go to town.

This may sound strange but, where is the best place to buy fiberglass?

check the phonebook for an autobody supply shop and they will have tons of stuff to choose from.

Or you could go to Wal-mart and buy the repair kits it is about the same price, you can just buy better quality and in bigger quantities at the autobody supply shop.

i've heard of people buying tshirts from a salvation army and using them to create a box but i have no idea how that would work quality wise

SAY WHAT! i can kinda picture it but still why. if they couldn't afford the wood or a pre-fab box then how did they afford the stuff that's going inside the box or even the car???

I would say that they are using dowels, draping the t shirts over the dowel to get a curved box.

anyway i understand how you fiberglass a box but how would you bolt it down or seal the subs in?

well they used the tshirts as the fiberglass fabric, so you could stretch it and then apply resin, as for sealing the box, u could build a tray on the bottom and build the molded box from that, as well you can buy rings for ur subs to fit in so you mold them in the spots u want and then u have a finished spot fot them

I understand how to mount them but on the box i have now there is a pair of jacks on the side where the subs are wired to the amp how would one put those in?

u have two options there, u can mold them in or when your done molding u just cut a space for them and then bondo any gaps or imperfections, and to wire u would use the holes provided by the sub openings

Cougarprophet is right when you do a fiberglass box you make rings out of wood for the subs and fiberglass around them.

You can do just about anything as far as wiring goes I have seen little doors for the wiring or you can get blocks that screw down for the jacks it just takes a little imagination and go find a stereo supply store and look at what they have available and design your setup to work with it.

you can get large amounts of resin and mat at boating stores. make a frame using mdf ,wooden dowels, and hot glue. get a piece of mdf in the right length and wideth you want the box, this will be the bottom. now get some mdf rings, they sell them already made on ebay or make your own. figure out where you want the subs and use the wood dowels and hot glue to hold the mdf rings in the desired place. get some sort of fabric, like a fleece blanket from walmart, and stretch it over the wood frame, staple or hot glue it to the bottom mdf sheet. now, mix your resine and hardener (only do a small amount at a time because it hardens really quick) apply a generous amount all over the fleece, let it dry, then add another coat. when that is dry (it can still be alittle tacky) cut your matting into small squares, apply some resin to the box and lay the matting on it, now start applying resin over the matt. let it dry and apply 3 or 4 more layers. if you want the box really strong do 6 or 7 layers. after youre done coating it let it dry. now get lots of different grit sand paper and go to work, it will take alot of sanding unless you have one of the sanders that runs on an air compressor. now apply body filler, let it dry and sand some more. once youre happy with the smoothness, primer, then paint.

its a good idea to buy a large box of latex gloves and go to a discount tool store like harbor freight and get a box of 24 paint brushes, unless you want to clean yours, i think acytone will do the try. a long sleeve shirt and saftey googles/respirator is also a good idea. pulling dried resin from your arm hair isnt fun.
