Wire hanger FTW!! But if you've got $5 burning a hole in your pocket and are just shaking in your boots anticipating a trip to Wally World, go get that tool.

go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars.

bobby, have you ever removed your stereo? because seriously, there is absolutely no substitute for the measly 3 bucks this tool costs.

I've pulled the radio probably a dozen times, and using the wire hangar pulls it in like, 2 seconds. Look at the damn tool. Its an overglorified, shiny, coat hangar that just has a smooth curve.

maybe you guys can help me with this, i cant get my stock radio, i got a 2000 with the 6 disc changer, i was in the parking lot of circuit city with the installer and the tool for 30min and he couldnt get it. I tried the hanger, i even tried the nails. all same result.. its gotta be stuck on somthing. One side releases but the other seems jamed. Any clues???

If you use the actual tool you can try and push them in just till it clicks... thats what the round head is for on the end. Then try pulling them outward.... away from the center and pull toward yourself.

The radio can get jammed in there somehow. I'm not sure what causes it, but I saw it happen once. If that has happened (and I'd think the installer would've been able to get it out - it's really easy once you do it the first time and understand what's happening), I think you're looking at tearing the dash apart to get it out.
