Hehehe sorry about fading out. I got busy at work and forgot to post. I wasn't able to get a Dyno Sheet because it was free and the guy was paranoid, but it was clocked at 217HP. Let me list my specs again,
'99 Mercury Cougar
2.5L Engine w/ Automatic Transmission
Front Wheel Drive
All exterior is stock for now.
Injen Cold Air Intake w/ Rev Chip attached.
Monza Cat Back Dual Exhaust System
New Premium Spark Plug Wires and Plugs

What I forgot to mention is I also installed a Rev Chip in it as well which I'm told adds at least 10 more hp. www.revchip.com is where I got it. I know that you might think I'm fake because I don't have my Dyno sheet with me, but if I can beat a '97 Ford Mustang thats a V6 195HP stock then that can be an indication. Let me know your comments and if there is a better way you want me to list my stats let me know. Thankks :)

Um...he was paranoid because he was wrong

Sorry man...but if they are the extent of your mods, you don't have 217 horsepower, not to the wheels, and probably not even to the crank.

It's all good though....Welcome to NECO!!

Take a look in this thread:

http://newcougar.org/forums/showthread.php?t=89951

It will show you some dyno sheets and list some of mods of member with modified 3.0 engines...that's a half liter of displacement more than you, with more mods, and without forced induction, they don't hit much over 200 usually.

I'm not calling you out...just the guy that did your dyno. He was just wrong.

yeah that rev chip is just like the black box from zxtuner aka its not very good for ur engine its pretty ghetto

look at this thread about the balck box, just like the revchip its and i quote "a hack mod" along with those tornado things for your intake they do nothing

That means the computer was lying then. I saw it with my own eyes and asked him for a print out and he was like "I'm already giving you one run for free." Though for the 1st half of April I'm not modifying the cougar at all unless it needs it to run. 2nd half of April I'm gonna put a more improved Throttle body and a Hi Flow Catalyitic Converter. There is a track in Sacromento that me and my friend are gonna race and bust our cars power on. Before that I will get a full legit dyno test with a sheet so i can make all you happy. lol

Hey Idolic..PM me when you plan on going..I'd like to go too. A new dyno would be great. Understand the fact that you don't have extensive mods and that you have an ATX are hindering your numbers by A LOT. Thats why you got all the flack. But definately hit me up. I gotta get mine back out there as well

Thanks,

news flash tho stock 97 mustangs are nowhere near 195 hp theyre same as cougars 175 he must have been a bad driver:bs:

info on stang v6's: up to 98 175 hp, 99+ 190 hp, then in 05 its like 210 hp stock with v6's, but no where near the tourque

well even if that was what the dyno read, just realize from other members, other posts, dynos, etc, that you are not making that much hp. one of the members here who doesnt post anymore was running nitrous, with intake, exhuast, headers, wideband o2, and is making just a little bit more power than you. so when we tell you you that you aren't making that kind of power, its not to insult you, or say you are a liar, just to help inform you. welcome to the boards

How about some 1/4 mile times? What about the weight of the car. If you have both of those we can work backwards and guesstimate your FWHP.

A dyno operator can make a dyno pretty much read anything they want.

Even if it were an ultra high reading Dyno, and read 150whp for a stock ATX cougar (which is unheard of), then with simple boltons, you'll net another 10-20 MAX whp on this high reading dyno for a total of 170whp...

The dyno operator probably input that the elevation was 100,000ft above sea level, and it corrected the graph to read at sea level.

Dude, I used to SMOKE V6 Mustangs when my 99 ATX V6 was STOCK. Those things are slow as piss. 195 hp doesn't mean squat when your car weighs as much as a Panzer Tank. And like someone said, the 97 V6 Stang was NOT 195hp.

From Edmunds:

1998 Ford Mustang STD Coupe
3.8L V6 Engine
150hp @ 4000rpm, 215 ft. lbs/tq @ 2750rpm
0-60 in 9.9 seconds
Curb Weight: 3065lbs.

1999 Ford Mustang STD Coupe
3.8L V6 Engine
190hp @ 5200rpm, 225 ft.lbs/tq @ 3000rpm
0-60 in 7.3 seconds
Curb Weight: 3069lbs

1999 Mercury Cougar V6 ATX
2.5L DOHC V6 Engine
170hp @ 6250rpm, 165ft.lbs/tq @ 4250rpm
0-60 in 7.8 seconds (I thought the MTX was faster than that? Maybe its the average between MTX and ATX, idk)
Curb Weight: 2892 lbs

You've got nice mods, but unfortunatly the dyno must have been malfunctioning to give that readout. Get it onto another dyno soon to get some good, accurate numbers.

Welcome to NECO, if you wanna get that thing really to make over 200fwhp, you can find all the info here!

EDIT: Edmunds is really goofy on their specs. Their 0-60 times don't make any sense.
1997 V6 Stang: 8.4 seconds
1998 V6 Stang: 9.9 seconds
1999 V6 Stang: 7.3 seconds

Either they're hiring monkeys to do their 0-60 tests, or something, because that makes no sense why the time would increase by 1.5 seconds when the powertrain is the same, then drop 2.6 seconds with only 40 more hp. They must be mixing Auto and Manual transmissions with those times to get such huge fluctuations.

The dyno may have read 217, but there is no way your car makes 217 horsepower to the wheels. Put it this way...Stock cougars make 170 horsepower at the engine, which is about 140-150 to the wheels, as was mentioned above. Now to go from 140 to 217 means you picked up 77 horsepower. An intake and exhaust will give you 10-15 horsepower, but not 77 lol.

I dynoed my ATX at 149.7hp. Gutted cats, cold air intake, 19lb injectors, flowmaster duals, 75mm maf w/ tuned sensor, and 93 octane.

I've got the plot too...

Thank you thank you for all your comments. Yeah Stage 2 is because I forgot to respond to the first thread. I'm beggining to think that there was something wrong with the Dyno place my freind took me too. It was a free run anyway. lol Anyways I've done some reading on the site and it seems a header is a great way to get some HP as well. I'll be implementing that into my plan. I'll be studying and studying though.

since you have the v6 it's "headers", a header is what you say for the 4 cyl. lol

Well there goes that modification. Smog tests are a pain in the ass when you want to modify a car. Is there anything else I should worry about when I get a smog test this year? Cold Air Intake is from Injen and legal. What else should I worry about? Thanks,
Rick

Would you be able to take an Injen short-ram (or another CARB legal unit), and stick a GMK CAI on the end and tell the inspectors its all one unit? Would they know the difference?

I know this doesn't really pertain to me in Arizona but I'm just throwing this out there for general info for our crazy Californian friends. ;)

No they wouldn't know. They have no photos of aftermarket parts for every car out there. All they have is list of numbers, with corresponding vehicle makes, models, engines, and years. There's a link on the CA DMV site with all the info...

Don't talk about women like that. I hate guys that talk about women like objects. Lets start another subject.

Whats your take about drifting a Cougar? Its been raining a lot in the Bay Area and I've been taking advantage of that by drifting once in awhile. Not all the time. Well I've done it enough to wear I can do a turn and exit out of it going
55-60mph. Its pretty simple. As long as your accelerating correctly its easy. Today was a rainey day and I had a lot of fun on a very curvy road. Its a trip when your car is driving fast at 45 degrees. The cougars have such an awesome turning curve too. lol Anyways lets talk about it.

Moraki
04-08-2006, 04:50 AM
You can not drift a FWD car.... you can get sloppy and loose control of it but you can not drift. Then again drifting is an over rated idiotic fad that will pass, so who cares?
