View Full Version : What do you all want to do?

Goldie

so... do we want to plan for a get together sometime soon? and if so, what do you want to do.

I think it makes most sense to meet in Seattle - since that's the most central for everyone.

But since Tad is the only one in Seattle (that I know of), and doesn't have a garage - or much parking (assuming he'd be ok with us there again :) ) don't know how well a 'mod' meet would go over there until summer weather is here.

Suggestions? what works for time also?

Hey im down for wherever and whenever.I like the idea of a mod meet but I dont know who knows what. Also I'd like to figure out what were gonna do so I could get things 2gether.I think snowboarder....was talking about clear corners which ive wanted to do for a long time. But id like to something soon whatever we decide. So lets get something planned goldie...soon.

TAD........... since you've torn more cougars apart than there are NECO members in the NW... can you list off your know-hows? (like, how are you with opening headlights?)

haha, I'm down for sometime most likely on a weekend and hopefully closer to April or mid April would be best for me seen as I'm still trying to get my Insurance lump sum of 3500 saved up for mid April and won't have much spare money until I have that much cash in hand! But yah I am preety good with taking headlights apart and from just experiencing my headlights for the past couple weeks since superbowl sunday (when I did my headlights) I haven't had any fogging for sealing them back up yet either! SO that should be easy enough to do! But I'm open to other suggestions seen as that can be a fairly long mod depending on how the plexiglass feels like behaving at teh time haha! But otherthings I know how to do from experience on doing it myself is!
-Full tune ups of everything basic (all filters, spark plugs and wires, oil changes) (not really a mod but incase someone doesn;t know how to do it.... I could help)
-Shaving the letters and side molding off the car (VERY EASY)
-LED light swaps (I still have a bunch of red LED's Left over from my light swap that I still haven;t finished 100%) oh and I know Goldies done some preety sweet stuff pertaining to the gauges with leds and stuff like that that I might be intrested in
-Clear Corners on headlights!
-Short shifter installs (If someone wanted to buy one and have it installed they're easy enough to do)
Theres some other stuff too but those are the easy 1's that I know how to tackle and know could be done in a days meet! I know they're preety basic but w/e maybe someone wants to do them up and I would be more than happy to help out on these!

when I open my headlights, I am going to nightshade the orange, instead of replace them with clear.
the other thing I may be interested in doing is flipping my optima battery on it's side - but seems like the stock battery cables only work with it upright ?? also, still need to swap out my damn IACV I've had sitting on my desk for a year now.

Damn a lot of good ideas and as ive only had my cougar for a few months I havent touched the interior as ive been afraid of messing something up lol.id love to install some led's and red would b perfect.I would buy whatever and i know its a meet but id still like to kick in some cash for helping or buy the food and brew.I have about 65,000 miles and i would like to tune it up.Anyway whatever you guys are down for I'd love to get done as soon as possible.YA ya NW iz in hizouse lol.

So ya im down for whatever...next month would be cool and im gonna get a day off i think to stay over in seattle and hit a tune shop since there isnt one around here.If tad knows if any close it would be cool to stop by and take a look.Anyway its funny how taking off those amber side markers make a huge differnce and I didnt realize how hideous those amber ones were. How long does a tune up take?Just plugs as i got K&N intake with injen intake and just changed synthetics so...just plugs and whatever else.I havent really got to even look at other cougars so im stoked at just that...

instead of me listing what i know how to do, how about you tell me what you want done and i'll tell you if i can do it ;)
save me some typing
I do know a bit about fiberglass/CF/plastics/molding/painting/etc.. and then just the normal stuff
headlights are easy.. i've not done them to my own car but have helped someone before
just cut it open and seal it back up
I think i have an extra headlight somewhere you could practice on somewhere in my basement
I can bring tools and stuff but as Goldie said, I have limited space to work on stuff. We were lucky last time because neither of my roomates were home that day.

Where in oregon are you?zip?or something i could use to see how far away u r on mapquest.Id like to clear and then paint the insides of my headlights laser red.I can go down to the paint shop here and theyll mix some custom and put it in a spray can.

tad
03-07-2006, 07:35 PM
laser red is a tri-stage paint
if they give you 1 color in a spray can to match I would be concerned
you might be able to find the proper combination on the boards of what to put down first and what to go over that
I had a laser red cougar and paint was a paint to match
Crispy would be a good resource
but in all honesty, i'd choose an accent color instead
the slight color difference will really stand out in your head lights
let me know if you need further advise on this topic

yeah... what he said. I'm about 20 minutes south of Portland.

Snowboarder
03-07-2006, 11:47 PM
yup I've got lazer red, deffinately tri-colour and hard to match! umm tune up stuff that if you haven;t done at that milage... fuel filter (costs like 8 bux canadian so it's fairly cheap), spark plugs but make sure they are double platinum plugs (platinum on both anode and cathode of the plug) fuel filter takes like 15 minutes if that! and Spark Plugs with the right tools only takes about an hour or so! headlights I'd suggest using a heat gun to seperate them instead of cutting them (a lot less work and faster) Oh you could also replace your cabin air filter (this filters your air that enters your cabin if you didn't figure it out already haha) all these are very easy to do! Oh and 99cougarred, don;t worry about LED's man I have the LED's and resistors that you'd need just laying around (you only use like 10-15 of them anyways and I bought a pack of 50 awhile back and I have a bunch of resistors sitting around somewhere too so) all you need is electric solder and I can bring down the tools if no one else owns them!

99cougarred

u guys are awesome and just let me know what you would like me to bring.Ill buy the beer or whatever you guys want.Ill buy a heat gun this week and a electric soldering tool.ANything I need to buy?Ill get a fuel filter and plugs if you guys are down for doing it.What do you guys think a good accent would be?Can I get the cabin filter at a local parts shop or is that a dealer item?So its about 8 hours for me i think. So when do you guys wanna do this?

Goldie
03-08-2006, 01:56 AM
You can get the cabin air filter at any parts store - it's one of the more expensive though.

Snowboarder
03-08-2006, 02:16 AM
haha! umm cabin air filters are actually kinda expensive I got mine at canadian tire in Canada, so I'd imagine any type of tool/auto specific stores that sell spark plugs and all that for assorted cars would carry one! I wouldn;t worry too much about getting too many tools you don;t have (although I find they do come in usefull for small projects) If you do want a soldering "tool" you'll want to get a soldering iron, not gun because it has a fine tip on it apposed to a big tip from a soldering gun! I actually do recomend getting a soldering iron however because you might need some of the LED's to take home and finish up yourself! (I know on the 99's there are some switches that light up that don;t in the 01-02 modles like the fog light knob! so some of them could be a bit of an adeventure to try out and do, but theres a great how-to written by Scrupoulus [I think thats how you spell it haha])
But yah I always find myself doing minor projects with my soldering iron and my favorite tool to use my dremel :D ) but yah this should be a sweet meet!

Tad: not at this meet but maybe a meet down the road or even just a 1 on 1 thing I wouldn;t mind if you could teach me some minor stuff about fiberglassing and molding (will start off with molding because I want to mold a screen into my dash eventually, but not for a long time yet, 1 thing at a time right) but yah I wouldn't mind learning whatever you know and possibly more from just experimenting with materials with you!

i have never changed my cabin filter, fuel filter, or spark plugs on any cougar i've owned.. just an FYI.. aka it doesn't really need to be done like people say
(of course now my filter will probably plug up on the way to work)

Goldie is a pro on the solderin iron ;)

well what do you want to mold?
I can get you started on something and then show you how to finish it on your own.. but i don't really wanna do a whole piece.. i get frustrated easily with them :)

Goldie
03-08-2006, 08:58 AM
Maybe you could give me a how to on fiberglass :) I want to make a new trunk liner (maybe using some fiberglass) by this summer. Wouldn't need to be that actually, but maybe something small to figure it all out.

I don't really want to get into something that's required to be on the car to drive it home - maybe headlights - I keep going back and forth on that.

haha - yeah, as long as the buttons are not being taken apart by the spokane guy's short attention span little brother :ugh:

OK.. i also have some expanding foam stuff (kinda expensive though).
A lot of people just use that green block you can get from craft stores.
It's really nice to work with though.
Just pour it over some shape you want to copy and voila.
It sands really well too.
Then it's just tape, glass, and resin.
That's how a lot of people make widebody fenders.. not that I would be willing to do that ;)
OH i just remembered I also have some stretchy fleece fabric somewhere too.
I wish I had an extra door panel that I could play with.
I wish it was summer so I could do some of this stuff without being rained on.

ive seen that stuff its real nice to sand and work.Id b happy clear the plastic in the headlights and painting them. Also the leds would b cool but when can we do this?I want to soon..and i bought the soldering iron.Is there anything else that i could bring that would help?

I'm willing to make a drive down south for a meet if anyone else is interested in making that drive. As for time any time would do. Plus for myself I just received a new front bumper that most likely I would bring down with me to have installed.

Plus with an extra set of fog lights (thank you god) I was thinking about opening those things up and seeing if I couldn't either paint them or chrome them. So Tad if you know anything about how to sucessfully opening up stock fog lights that would be cool. Plus I have not forgotten that you want a mold of my visteon spoiler. If you still want it either bring what you need or lets set something up since I am only a 40 minute drive (depending on traffic) from ya.

Were all interested and I dont mind the drive but I think its harder for others.Actually ive been looking online at vacation house rentals. And I found two in tacoma with 2 car garages and real nice with hot tubs.it would be nice to chill, drink a lil and work on the cars.Ill post the links and you guys can tell me what u think.

http://www.greatrentals.com/WA/2559.html

the second is a year old house and it sounds expensive but depending on who came up.its a house for 6 people and 2 car garage..big for 400 bucks. So if we got 5 people its about 80 bucks a piece for a weekend of modding in a real nice house.$45 dollar cleaning fee as all 2gether we would be looking at 90 bucks a piece for the whole weekend.Sounds awesome to me but hey guys let me know.We can plan it late in april or before but 100 bucks for the whole weekend isnt bad plus a huge garage..heated.

Shawn: I bought a visteon spoiler, but thanks anyway.

i'm not interested in having to pay to work on cars all weekend, sorry
I'm sure everyone else will probably agree.
You could give me the $100 though and i'll do it all for ya ;)
I probably wouldn't mind going down to Portland area for a day or whatever, but I doubt some of the people north of me would really want to.

I'm not intrested sorry, that's about a 6 hour drive for me! Even if I stay the night thats a long drive both ways! I don't mind seattle, because thats anywhere from 2-3 hour drive depending on traffic! plus thats a big city and my buddy who wants to come with me wants to get a hotel for the night so the next day we can chill in seattle and go shop for some american stuff thats not sold in Canada! If theres anyone just outside of Seattle area that can have more cars in there driveway I'm fine with that too! Let me know

Im fine with whatever you guys wanna do.I dont see many other ideas on here besides mine and goldies. If you do wanna do this lets do it but if you dont its cool just say so.I was willing to put up the money and $300 deposit trying to get something organized. It cant really be that hard to set up something and even with a 5 hr drive which i would have to do also is that if you stay the night its not that bad.Leasve early get at goldies around 11-12 and mod all day...drink some...eat some good food. And if anyone wanted we could finish some modding the next day and then head home.It dont really matter to me as i just wanna see other cougars and learn some modding.

One of the main problems with our chapter is the members we do have are scattered accross a wide area. It's not centralized within a 200 mile radius like some of the other chapters are. So trying to get a meeting planned and people to commit to is tough.

Also a factor in the chapter is the weather and how it affects meets and all. As it has been stated not everyone here has a garage to hold these meets under cover.

I vote we go down to Oregon sometime in early April and take Goldie's offer to use her folks place and garage. Even though for some its a longer drive right now it's the only plan we have that enables both an indoor place to do these mods but also allows parking space for anyone who comes.

Goldie
03-09-2006, 10:10 PM
not to say I wasn't serious about you all coming down here, I didn't really think the people from north of Seattle (or to the east) would be able to make it, and really think if we get together, we should find a place/time/entertainment that works for everyone.

WOAH! The NW has a 4 page thread! I need to start checking in here every once in a while.

I'm down for a meet sometime soon. I'm in eastern wa, spokane to be exact. There is only 1 other cougar person I know of over here that I talk to. I bet we could both make it out to seattle, but portland is pushing it.

One project I really want to do this spring is LED taillights. Kinda like these http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=105718&highlight= I don't know alot about making leds/resistors work together, and making them illuminate brightly from scratch. But I have converted everything in my interior to blue, including HVACS. So I know how to solder and I even made a board for the HVAC's, but I followed these pictures and how-to to the very hole. I would be lost without someone elses knowledge on where to put resistors and stuff. So if anyone knows how to do something like this, I have a spare taillight and would take a drive for a project. Here are the pics:

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c313/jfish43/Cougar/LEDBoard2.jpg

wow those look sweet, I just don;t know how you'd do that with our tail lights... I have a spare broken tail light as well and the only thing broken is a little crack and a mini hole in the boob, but it still works 100% and I don;t see how you would get a circle like that in there unless you unsealed the tail light which we could maybe mess with mine to see if you can! maybe I'll get the heat gun out tomorrow and play seen as this tail light is just junk! maybe I could make something up as I'm preety good with resistors and LED's as I've done my dreamcast out too look like a techno show haha! You just need a resistor calculator to figure out what type you need! or you could lace the LEDs in a series to total 12V, but I heard that still burns them out and it wouldn't be as bright I don't imagine I'd rather just run an LED and a resistor to each 1 in a parellel connection! But yah I love the look of your car Jfish43 so if we have a meet in seatlle you better show or I'll hunt your cougar down so I can stare at it and say it looks clean....! haha sorry I'm tired right now I coulda messed up my LED saying up top a bit too I'll check it in the morning when I'm less tired...

ya it takes 4 pages just to figure out date and place to meet lol. Im about 5 hours from goldie but i will drive so if people will put whether or not theyll drive to goldies. It would be nice for the chapter to actually know everyone and help each other out. So hopefully we can get something worked out and get 2gether soon.

Snowboarder
03-12-2006, 05:15 PM
well another idea would be to just have a meet that doesn't envolve a mod meet! we could just meet up and go for a drive, or we could meet up and do something as well as find a giant parking lot like at a wal-mart or something and do it up like that! We could do mods outside as well if someone had a ciggy lighter inverter with plug in's for 24V that they wouldn't mind bringing we don't necessarilly have to do it at a house! Or maybe even Jfish you said your in spokane how is your area for potentially holding a mod meet? that's a lot closer than goldies for a lot of people! all just ideas!

tad
03-20-2006, 03:20 PM
gauges are simple
at the risk of sounding rude..
I don't want to spend a bunch of money on gas and or a place to stay just to work on someone else's car and teach them how to do certain mods
I don't mind helping people do stuff, but not if it's going to cost me money

I've put up a bunch of ideas too man, but no one wants to drive too far! If you really wanna get some stuff done to your car, you're probably fairly close to me like 2 hour drive, maybe 1 day for a case of beer I could come down and help you out with some stuff! But It's not even a matter of money for me! It's more a matter of time, I don;t want to waste my time driving like 14 hours round trip! I do enough driving to go camping and partying in the summer and to go snowboarding in the winter! Just not something I'm really fond of, I like driving but not for extended periods of time especially when I only get 2 days off a week, you know what I mean! like I said Seattle or someplace close to seattle or an equal distance drive for me! other than that I'm out even though I really want to do something....!

you got yourself some diamonde plate floor mats yet? cuz if not........ you should use some of that equipment and make you some, there so easy, you could cut them out in like 2 hours but most likely less (I think after mine were traced out it took me like an hour to cut them out) and then the rest you can do at home with a metal file and then some sand paper or my tool of choice for everything.... a DREMEL! haha! all you need to get then is some diamonde plate which is kinda expensive but a lot less than buying some prefabed diamonde plate floor mats online!

unless of course I am sharing a bed with Goldie, then I'll drop everything. ;)

This is what it’s sounding like to me. If this comes across as sounding harsh I don’t mean it harshly just saying how I see things.

Snowborder who lives in BC can’t make a trip anywhere past about a 3 hour one way without making it a huge day. 99cougarred is open to any place for a meeting. Goldie I know has driven once up to Tad’s and has offered up the use of her folks garage and ample parking. Tad would be willing to show some people how to do things and travel a reasonable distance. As for myself I am open to anything. That indicates that either the Seattle or the Eastside would be the best option for a group meet.

If there was a group meet centered in the Seattle area or the east side (not eastern Washington) would everyone be willing to make the trip? I know for Goldie and Snowborder that involves about a 3 to 4 hour drive. Now 99cougarred I have no clue where you are so I don’t know how long of a drive it would be for you. I know Tad is in Seattle and I am about a 40 minute drive from Seattle.

If people are willing to do this then I will do the research to find a place that has ample parking and access to a covered area incase the weather turns bad.

As for the date that would have to as Goldie said to be agreed upon by everyone. Right now that is still up in the air. But lets at least get a location down. Also has anyone heard from Bazzy999 since he/she left that message in the NECO Northwest Roll call thread?

Oh and Tad, you got the left side of the bed and I got the right side with Goldie squished in the middle.:cover:

Goldie's bed is only big enough for 2....trust me I know:) and the only other person better be from Missouri:cool:

OK Tad......you have my permission

i havent heard from him/her at all so I dont know. That sounds cool to me so hopefully we'll get some motivation from people as a lot of the other chapters drive quite aways for meets especially mod meets. I know everyone has busy lives but I think it would b fun. So anyone come up with some ideas put it out there no matter what it is. If you have any friends or anything that have a garage tell them buy the beer/pizza or whatever to get it done.

I'll ask if any of the other BC memebers want to go, but chances are slim seen as they never frequent the boards anymore! but yah where exactely are you on the east side?

is no one going to take initiative on this?
I'm awfully busy with work and other things right now or I'd take charge.
Someone else just needs to do it and get the ball rolling.

I think keith already tried that and everyone basicly shot him down for his ideas....! I can have a meet in Canada no problem if you guys wanna make the journey, but no undercover garage or anything! like that, so if it rains it rains! But I figured like Goldie most wouldn;t want to make the journey here as well as wait in the damn line up at the boarder just to be hasseled by the stupid canadian customs (it's WAY easier to get into the US than Canada at the peace arch and the truck crossing)

I also suggested a Seattle area non-mod meet (get together for lunch, do some sort of cruise and maybe a mariners game (even though they're already 0-1 :( ) and everyone said they wanted a mod-meet instead.
If you all want to reconsider a non-mod-meet, I'd be happy to come up with a plan :)

Mariners game sounds cool to me. I would defenately make the drive to meet some cougars owners and watch a game.
